i don't understand how you guys can be so thirsty. she'll obviously be giving us something soon but to expect that she was going to release something last night is a bit bizarre to me. let's just do our best to wait and remain excited.

Nothing really planned in terms of excitement or eventfulness before ROM (so around the week of) . Enjoy the next 10 days and get hyped knowing we about to be served some excitement this day two weeks time!

I feel like we'll get more until ROM anyway. Like some teasing about the song and visual, more about the album (like tracks length)...

(1) We don't know is my point. :saladga: They easily could be and they just as easily could not - unless we are in the studio when they were making Free Woman we literally can't know at this point in time. I personally master 1000 different ways and at different points personally when working on projects. For me it helps because working with a fully unmastered track I struggle to find what I want to do direction wise because I get focused on parts that don't sound "finished" (2) so if it's a part of the mix I know I wont change - such as the drums, I will do a little mastering to that audio so I can focus on the parts I want to change. Then sometimes once I'm done I'll say screw it and master things again. Every person has different work processes and even those will vary from song to song. (3) I don't think the issue is that people don't know what mastering means - I think it's that you are being a bit elitist about it. If we understood what they meant then it doesn't matter. Plus, even if they don't fully understand what it means - they still might not be entirely wrong! (4) Mastering isn't a one and done process when working and having tons of different demos. Nor is mastering from a single stereo file the only way to do it. Yeah, if they were saying mix and master or even just mix it may be "more correct" but I'm not expecting everyone here to be fully educated on the process - (5) but if they are communicating in a way that we can understand than there is no reason to be shady because they're not using perfect vocabulary.

1. I agree that we can't know for sure.

2. "A little mastering" to the drums is just not something that happens :air: Mastering is the final stage. I think you're probably trying to talk about mixing here. What you've described is normal, but if you're working on a mix and you finalise an element to audio, you're still working within the mix. Stems mastering is when everything has been done and you export to stems (fully finished, no editing) and then master with stems rather than a simple two-track audio file. But what you're talking about is categorically not mastering.

3. Elitist? :what: I can't even. I just don't like people using terms they don't understand. You won't find me talking about some specialist terms I know nothing about :sharon:

4. Mastering is literally the final stage in producing a demo. Slapping a limiter on a demo you're exporting hardly counts as mastering. I would never tell a client of mine that something had been "mastered" just because of that. Nor would I tell them the drums had been "mastered" when I'd just bounced them to audio and perfected them - that's mixing, especially as part of a mix with other sounds unexported and still being worked on.

5. The point is that people using these terms when they don't understand them means they aren't communicating correctly. If all they understand by mastering is "finished", what's stopping them using words they actually do understand to say that "I think the instrumental is more finished than the vocals" :emma:

I'd argue that it does sound gibberish and a little unfocused in the second verse but the first verse is IMO one of her stronger verses in her discography, both lyrically and thematically. It paints an imagery about her early days as that obscure artist who'd roam the streets of NYC knowing she'd make it big one day, humming her own tune and determined to fight with her sweat, tears and leather to make it

I walk the downtown
In my sound
No one knows me yet
Not right now
But I'm 'bout to set, this feeling, in motion
Watch, watch me now, electric, devotion

Also, sometimes you don't need complex words to convey complex emotions. Simplicity can be powerful in its own way too and can go more than an inch deep. Her saying that "she's not nothing unless she knows she can" is in fact a very powerful realization that she is somebody and that she can achieve whatever she wants to and now she knows that. Again, not imposing anything, just expressing my point of view on this :)

I‘d even go as far to say as f.e. The ‚watch me now, electric, devotion‘ paying homage to her Song Electric Kiss, in which she‘d talked about changing the world etc. I honestly think, there is much to unpack in the lyrics if you take the time

People getting dragged because they don’t know what they’re saying and then getting defensive about it
