Most album campaigns have one (sometimes two, and in desperate cases like four or five) single released before the album and all the other ones are released after to keep giving people who haven't bought the record a chance to get into it, find out about it, and maybe be interested enough to purchase it. It has always been like that, like, always. Singles are an album's main mean of promotion, it's publicity, they get sent to radio and music videos are made so that the album gets attention for as long as possible.
