The song's title refers to her gender as she has come out as non-binary not too long ago: "I identify as a transwoman, and I see my gender identity as nonbinary." From Paper Magazine, about the song: On the album's opening track, "Nonbinary," Arca repeatedly implores the listener to "speak for your self-states" amidst an eruption of artillery fire and thundering kicks. "I'm asking for recognition that we have multiple selves without denying that there's a singular unit," she says. "[It's] the difference between the pronoun use of 'they' and 'it.' It's that I want to have my cake and eat it, too. I want to be seen as an ecosystem of minor self-states without being stripped of the dignity of being a whole." The song premieres on Youtube on April 30 at 7AM PDT. The new era is officially upon us Spoiler I know the album, including this song, already leaked but I'm still hyped af because I think the leak might not be the final version of the album (especially that Arca talked about a song called "Trio" which isn't in the leak. Also, I think it's an essential song for this era, especially with the messages it holds. Arca talked about it (and being nonbinary) in interviews.
