The only possible reasons would have been for the aesthetics and the feature. But I think she wants to attempt to reconnect with younger audiences again because she will be releasing her re-recordings soon-ish and wants those to hit with the kids, but to do that she needs to be on the front of their minds. So by releasing a song which is very obviously targeted at them (in Miss Americana she even mentions that she wants little kids to sing the lyrics) she will hopefully be able to reconnect with kids again. Aside from this it was just to achieve a full 180 from reputation (in sound, look, tone, colour, aesthetics etc.), cause no other song on the album is as 180 as ME! like there are basic bops on their but nothing else like this. And Brendon was probably cause she wanted to work with him but also cause she knew he would peak interest, like it every reaction video they commented on it. So while I think that she was trying to show growth to fans through the album I think in general she just wanted a 180 from rep. And I think that maturity will (hopefully) come through on TS8 cause rn the aesthetics are looking SO GOOD (she has had the hardest time keeping the pastel aesthetic, she has basically given up. Just look at her instagram, she doesn't have have a pastel colour icon. The aesthetic has completely changed and if this: Hide contents is the new aesthetic, I'm so here for it Nice insight, thanks for sharing I think your point regards the 180 from Reputation is totally right. 'ME!' was a complete shift in gear, and it definitely set out to say - actually - THIS is me... not the character I was portrayed to be before. And she looks great right now. I'm very excited for TS8 but, surely, we're in for a long wait - no? Like, I wouldn't expect the album till Fall 2021, right? Possibly even later if 21 is reserved for the re-recordings. subtext / fantasy
Galvon 1,868
This song is decent. No it's not deep, intelectual, creative, socially critical, mind blowing, revolutional etc. But it's bublegum pop, and it has a fun vibe. Yall have way to high standards. Let her be. Sometimes you just wanna sing yay whoo heeya! Being a little goofy is fun!
Franch Toast 26,831
I didn't even realize I knew this song, but I actually kind of like it. (It's sometimes on the playlist for my fitness class.) She/Her/Hers

Miel 15,009
It’s a cute song, but considering how great the rest of the album is, and how great this duo is... like, how did this happen... 3 points in and ready for more

TomFord 363
The verses aren't too bad, but the chorus and bridge ruin it for me. I do remember watching the Miss Americana documentary and watching her write it... the chords sounded like an entirely different/dreamier song which would've made the song so much more interesting without the marching band aesthetic smeared over top Also imagine if Cruel Summer was the lead instead of this

If she's smart, probably. I'm not sure of she will try push TS8 and all the re-recordings out at once or push TS8 out then wait for the re-recordings or vice versa. A simple lmao doesn't help me. I mean, don't LOVE the song. Like the me-he-heeeeee , and that's probably it. 😂 I am so sorry. Sometimes nothing makes sense until you materialize it in via text. So nevermind. I don't love this song. Lol. I don't really have an explanation to why I don't like the song except it doesn't show any growth and it's obviously trying to reach a younger audience which she might as well give up on. I gave an analysis cause I had thought about that a couple of days ago and figured I could give my 2 cents now The Tortured Poets Department is out NOW

hardcore1996 1,618
its catchy, its a bop, its got a few cringe moments (spelling is fun) but what i’ll never understand how they got brandon urie on this or thought it was a good idea to do so? on a song like this? i was someone who was into all that emo **** back in 2000whatever and i would have never ever imagined this as a collaboration. if they had fun and made money i guess it doesnt matter but its so left field in my opinion
