Blackpink and Gaga?

So now that the Blackpink collaboration is confirmed I wanted to start a conversation.
I don’t know anything about kpop other than fancam spam on Twitter, and that my iPhone wants to autocorrect kpop to “Koop”.
With that said, I’ve seen a few videos on YouTube about Blackpink, and YG since the track list was revealed. From what I understand people believe that this group of young girls is being controlled, mistreated, and abused. If that’s the case, why would Gaga get involved in any of it? How did the collaboration even come about if the girls are believed to never have a say in their own lyrical content?

I guess I’m just confused, and need to be filled in before making assumptions about Gaga’s intent/relationship with Blackpink, and I see some of you are big fans of theirs.

Kpop brings BILLIONS to South Korea GDP., only BTS brings like 5 billion dollars.. I mean they're really a PART of the country's economy and it's a state politic, like they get funded to spreand their culture, look at Parasite winning best picture. Gaga was in a situation like that, remember ARTPOP? Not every artists or group goes through it but some do, this is just another case. I don't know if it's true or not, I just know that aren't being treated as they should in terms of promotion and opportunities.

This could actually help them to break free and get signed or a co-contract with a label in the US, they were clearly more confortable performing at Coachella than at home.

It's the industry. I don't think Gaga knows that most kpop bands exist to get milked out and when they aren't doing $$$ anymore they get disbanded. It's a culture and a type of music she likes, and as I say this could open more opportunities to these girls..

another shot before we kiss the other side

Blackpink are more like celebrities/influencers nowadays tbh, they are on the market for 4 years now and have 15 SONGS :toofunny: They sell very well tho and their songs (although a lot of them sound the same) are catchy

Didn't even consider this. I've heard stories about KPOP stars being mistreated and heavily controlled. I certainly hope that's not the case with BLACKPINK.
We'd also be facing yet another problematic Gaga collab

Get the pinot ready, because it's turtle time.

Maybe she got to know them personally, and is hoping this helps them?  It seems so random. She takes the creative process, and concept seriously, so to see her collaborate on a conceptual album with artists who don’t even write music...it’s strange. Once you add the drama, and allegations it leaves me dumb-founded. Very DWUW vibes.

Some of the things I learned about them were really weird, and shocking, but I guess these things are cultural norms there in a way.

It is only natural that they collabed, Interscope have signed BLACKPINK as part of their roster in 2018. Meaning Gaga and BP are label mates.

https://www.interscope.com/artists/blackpink

https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/pop/8481273/blackpink-interscope-records-umg-global-deal-yg-entertainment

Perhaps Gaga is interested with them, and thinking they could bring a new feels into her music? perhaps it's suggested by Bloodpop or Hana? And it was easier to happen cos the fact they are labelmates?

The girls are very influential. Whenever they wear something designer for a new photo shoot, the same item goes out of stock and is sold out almost immediately. It’s scary and since YG is such terrible management and misogynistic, I think the streaming numbers for this collab will be insane. The BLINKS haven’t been fed with music in about a year and the fact that the reigning queen of pop music collaborated with them is huge for them. Last year at Coachella I was up close to the stage and didn’t think very many people were going to come see them, I went to go see Kacey Musgraves and when I got back I was so far back I couldn’t even make it into the tent. They have that it factor and are amazing performers hoping for a visual because YG will spare no expense to ensure a video for this song is ****ing high budget and bonkers.

In comparison to acts like BTS, yeah they’ve collaborated with some big acts but no one on Gaga’s level.

Bottom line is KPop is here and holy **** will it slay.

See I didn’t know any of this.

I did read something somewhere that said a lot of their music is scrapped work from previous kpop group, 2ne1. What if “Sour Candy” is the same?

Unfortunately, BLACKPINK is mistreated and heavily controlled. But since they are so well-loved, I doubt it will be a problematic collab.

The thing that intrigues me is that most Kpop artists barely have the talent Gaga has in her fingertip alone. They are good looking and have stage presence, and that’s it. It is strange to see a musician like Gaga collaborating with them. But then I remember Beyonce has a team of writers so what do I know.

That being said, Gaga couldn’t have picked a better group to collab with, their visual and musical style matches hers the best. ( I am a blink so my comment is a little biased.)

It just doesn’t seem very Gaga for her to walk into that place lol. We’re talking about the LADY GAGA. She’s only had a handful of tracks featuring other artists. She’s extremely cautious about her creative process, and the meaning behind a project. She’s an advocate for abuse, and misconduct in the music industry. With all of that said....she’s collaborating with a girl group who is accused of only existing as a cash cow with no song writing credibility. People are questioning Blackpink’s desire to even stay together.
I’m still looking into this whole kpop thing. I’m learning for the sake of Sour Candy alone lol.

What’s the ranking I keep hearing about? I keep seeing that Blackpink is a “top 3” group, and that they have virtually no music which is a huge contradiction apparently.

I agree.
What you need to understand about BLACKPINK is that despite having only a few songs, their songs are all produced by legendary producer Teddy Park ( the RedOne of kpop). A few really good songs is enough to keep a group popular in Kpop. This is true even for western artists. Blackpink simply got lucky landing a big company and getting all those songs, nothing more and nothing less.

What do you guys think, did they record it together or separate??

Did Blackpink even know they were on a Lady Gaga track before it was confirmed by her?
