Quick question...was it worth it to release Stupid Love at all? especially since it leaked a month prior too :green:

I don’t know. Apparently the original plan before COVID was to drop ROM a week before the album on April 3, meaning the label was only giving it five weeks to do some cute numbers and create some hype for the album. Then Covid hit and the song just sat there not doing much while her and the label tried to replan things.

I mean SL was certainly a disappointment charts-wise and it should’ve done way way better coming off the ASIB era, but at least it did something on the charts.

Even Gaga’s worst performing singles have some certifications and a cute peak, her only official single to BOMB was G.U.Y. Other than that her singles are always in the “hit” territory even if they’re minor ones.

When her singles start missing the Hot 100 and don’t sell enough to get a measly gold certification then we’re truly screwed. We are lucky that even at her worst Gaga wasn’t bombing like Katy :laughga:.

This is also true. SL showed that Gaga has immense power to even power mediocre songs to marginal success. Katy can only get a small hit with one of her best songs of her career.

How blame her though.... She's a businesswoman now and she's making tons of money with Fenty Beauty, Savage, Fenty the brand... Money are not in music anymore with streaming taking over (except for tours).

Surely Gaga tried a similar approach with Haus Labs (ok don't laugh at this but the purpose stands) and Vegas, this is where money come from in the end.

the this proves Rihanna's passion was money not music.

Spoiler

Gaga's case is very different: Rihanna's last concert was in 2016 while Gaga's was in February aka the last month in which concerts could take place. It's been obvious that Gaga has been more looking for more lucrative things but she still has undeniable passion for music, even with hauslabs and vegas

Anyway, forget about SL. Our main focus now is getting ROM to #1. Prepare the plans in time!

My two cents:

I stick with the idea that SL is a good dance-pop song (especially for European radios etc.) but after hearing Free Woman and Rain On Me snippets, it honestly sounds quite generic and uninspired compared to them (and I assume that there will be more better song in the album too).

People were not here for it because Gaga has spent years trying to dismantle her old persona and reinvent herself with CTC/Joanne/ASIB, now if you wanna put up a dance comeback, SL simply isn't the appropriate song to do that cause it doesn't come even close to her TRUE dance-pop gems and it doesn't add anything new... Of course people will despise it and regret her latest ballads and ASIB soundtrack perfection at that point, cause she has been excellent at those.

Oh, I think ROM will do better than SL and actually have some longevity but there’s no way it goes number one. Gaga couldn’t even do that with her last major collaboration back in 2010. :messga:

well lets put it like this:

all her fans were saying they thought it was an unreleased demo she loved that interscope didnt let her put on the album, or they were saying it was completely unfinished

i still believe they knew it wouldn't smash because of the length of time between SL- ROM (i am hanging onto that)

lets hope this puts a fire in the belly for rain sur moi!

Stare at the Chartster in the mirror they talk to me too. #StreamFunTonight

I just don't get why they dropped it off radios so soon. They could have pushed it at least 2 more weeks, releasing in april a remix and a cute vertical video. Idk:nails:

But don't call SL a flop. It did good on radios, and was indeed a hit in various countries.

So the CD single for SL doesn't have the remix either :bradley:

it's cute :enigma: If they release physical singles for ROM maybe I'll order them both :bon:

What a flop. JKJK It's sad that it under performed awfully. I think this means that the GP prefer the Ballads. I hope everyone in this fanbase appreciates the bops on this  album because it is what we wanted.

If all the Gays refuse to do sexual activity unless a person is wearing Chromatica branding undewear I think we can do great!!!

I wouldn't be surprised if Interscope chose SL as the lead cause their aim was to evoke the "old Gaga" thing but it just fell flat in the public eye.

Now, Free Woman would have definitely been a more interesting choice to put up a dance comeback. It would have added something new to the table and it contains that "wow" factor in my opinion (something that SL clearly lacks).

I agree and I think chromatica will be her last god-honest pop album. She’s going to become an HAC/ballad queen like pink after this.
