La Rosalia 9,906
Ok, so inspired a bit in Entela’s post, I decided to give y’all a master class. When we talk about Spotify playlists, it’s important to know the difference between them: 1. There are editorial playlists such as THH, Hits Du Moment, Teen Party, etc. These are the ones that paranoid users here who believe that everyone from Scooter Brown, to any other girl’s management and Jesus Christ Himself can pay for its inclusion (which is not allowed). 2. The Top 50s from each country. 3. The Viral 50 4. The tastemakers playlists (this come from big profiles that are not curated by Spotify). 5. User Made playlists. Now, look at this chart. Stupid Love and DNS basically started with a very similar amount of editorial playlists. However, on both song’s second week we notice some stuff that is relevant: 1. Stupid Love falls considerably WW and loses some of its Top 50 followers, which means, it dropped out of the TOP 50 of some countries. 2. To this point and compared to the first week, both DSN kept more or less the same amount of editorial playlist followers. Which means, the editors must have had two weeks to test both songs’ performance. 3. On the contrary, DSN on its 2nd week basically keeps its WW position, streams and also gains followers on the Top 50 playlists (which means, it entered the Top 50 of some countries. This only means that clearly despite basically having the same treatment, one song took off while the other didn’t. There was not payola, there was not god made plan to sabotage Gaga, there wasn’t any of that. Obviously after this, it’s only path was to be removed from editorial playlists. I’ve read that “But Dua Lipa had +190M playlist followers while Gaga only had +110M!!!”. I don’t know where y’all are taking this data from. If you are using pages such as Spot On track, this number includes also user made playlists. This further proves my point that DSN had a better reception than Gaga. Now, I hope that you take into consideration for the future and stop being obsessed, deluded and smelly. If I didn’t make myself clear in any part, please let me know
Thrasher 22,980
@La Rosalia So when a song is still high after months on editorial playlists such as TTH (i.e. Don’t Start Now above latest singles Break My Heart and Physical until some days ago), that’s only because it’s received well and people actually keep streaming it a lot, right? Or could there be something “fishy” or particular behind that? Thanks for your contribution, love you “Come over, when you’re sober”

Something that we have to take into consideration, is that being an editor is a formal job and like most formal Jobs, they have KPIs. These include the playlists numbers such as streams, followers, engagement, skips rates, etc. There are other times, when there’s a big artist or someone that is being heavily promoted by the label, that at least for a month, Spotify may take some risks with their editorial ediciones for the sake of jumping on a trend (example: the Drake gate). Bloody 64,631
@La Rosalia thank your for your clarifying post, like always It just confirms that if a song has demand it's going to get the equal treatment. Even if it seemed fishy, DSN was top 10 on TTH beause it was getting high streams, while SL kept on declining..hence below 800k daily and on bottom of the playlist. Azor Ahai 18,861
The thing about payola is no one is gonna admit it is payola so you can never prove or disprove it. You can discredit any success on accusation of being payola. At the end of the day if every label uses payola or if payola doesn't exist it still cancels itself out
