maybe she had an accident (or someone did something to her) and woke up in the hospital and someone made up the story and she believed it?

Likely story is that it was just an incident and with each telling she embellished. Each time you tell a story you effectively are rewriting the previous memory of it until you get further and further from the truth and sometimes it becomes an unrecognizable event to what actually happened and even you don't know the truth anymore. It's actually quite common - and likely if she had any drug use than it increases just how her memory of it might be. So she may not be consciously "lying" but the truth of what actually happened is probably not what she is saying.

I always found memory fascinating in this aspect how each time u access it, u can start to re-wire it and twist it or warp it

A woman on Dr Phill was traumatized from an alleged rape and accused this man of being the rapist

However all the evidence they had suggested he was innocent. They did not find his DNA in her, and little evidences such as where he supposibly was that day (claimed by witnesses as well) did not match up that he was the guilty man but she insisted it was him and even cried and seemed genuinely frustrated

In this case she had no reason to lie because it was not a man she knew that she could of had a vendetta and she had nothing to gain from lying. She seemed to genuinely believe it was him

But apparently she was drugged or something and her recollection and memory of the event was somewhat vague because she was dazed and she did admit at first she did not fully Remember what the man looked like but claims once she saw the man then she knew and the face was clear

An expert on the show strongly believed what happened (tho it could not be said with 100% certainty) is that she had a rough imagine in her mind and when she saw a simmilar face her mind made the connection and that became the face in her memory

So as far as she was concerned that is the face she saw the day of the rape when in face it may just have been an imprint made after the connection was made in her mind

They never did solve the mystery 100%. But I found this case relevant to what u were talking about memory

I've had incidences of this myself where I'm pretty certain I remember something from childhood or a movie a certain way and the memory seems pretty vivid and when I see the same thing years later I realized I got details wrong in my memory :rip:.

I don't know if it was cases of simply remembering incorrectly or if something else made my memory warped all I know is there's been times I would swear on my life something was one way then I get irrefutable proof that my memory was incorrect :air:

it was a few years ago now and i believe she said that the driver had died. then weeks (or days?) later she said that she had potentially been roofied at a bar, slipped in the shower, hit her head and fabricated the Uber story while in shock.

Legit why do ppl make up stuff out of the blue? Is it legit just for attention? :air:

i knew this girl in highschool that suspiciously always had crazy sob stories (too many). One day I caught her tell a story to someone else in a completely different way she told it to me basically confirming to me what I already suspected (that she was full of sh*t)

My grade 11 anthropology teacher also had 47847274736 constant stories to tell some of them hardcore. And I'm like how can someone at age 50 have lived thru so much events to always have a relevant story to tell????

like either your life was literally a constant neverending adventure or ur just making up all this crap

in the case of my teacher I never got any proof or direct evidence she was making up stuff but I did strongly suspect

Edit: that anthropology teacher also had an annoying habit of always saying "holy Christmas" which I really don't get where that came from and the cringe was beyond description :deadbanana:

Wow, I watched her on American Idol for a decade and only now found out about this?

tbh i only heard of it now:shrug:

well apparently, that’s how her painkiller addiction started. she was always really space-y and out of it on american idol, so i guess that would be an effect of the incident, which maybe lead to the build-up of the lie?

i feel like there’s a chance that it was a small incident, but she ended up exaggerating it due to the drugs and needed an excuse for her long break. eventually, the lie just built up more and more and she doesn’t wanna backtrack.

I don’t think that queen did it for attention tho, I believe he did it because he wanted to get away from everything and disappear. I might be wrong tho :laughga:

Also, the response of the fans and some queens was hilarious:

It's really likely honestly. Even the surgeries and all that can still be true for a very small incident - minor fender benders in a car can have life long impacts on people too. We all embellish stories and even accidentally change our memories - typically most common being a memory being with one specific person but you actually had experienced it with a different person than you remember. The entirety of The Mandela Effect actually has a lot to do with this all as well. We think our memories are perfect - especially when we are younger, but the truth is they are extremely unreliable.

In this case you have Paula telling a story over and over for years and people wanting to hear about it so she has to make it a bit more interesting as well from even what she likely remembered - and likely somewhere along the way the "new" versions just overtake the truth further and further and I genuinely believe she believes it, and in this case I think that's where it should be left. She isn't endangering anyone with this after all.

Franch Toast

I had never heard about this, but my friend used to work with Paula (better not say how) and said she's, um, not very nice, to put it mildly.
