The only way China will ever be able to halt some of it's human rights atrocities is through sanctions but everyone is DEAD scared of properly sanctioning them because it would cause the collapse of that country since China is so economically tied to every damn nation on earth. Countries need to be less dependent on it. I mean if we can't have some sort of leverage over China then how can we convince them to stop their genocide on Muslim Chinese, Tibetians and Falun Gong? their tyrannical grip on Taiwan and Hong Kong? their illegal operations in the internationally recognized waters that belong to Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam etc..etc..etc... Sadly the world is too reliant on China's manufacturing power to move away. No established country is able to provide the cheap labor they are. Some smaller countries have the same abysmal labor laws and economic climate, but cannot operate at the same scale as China. On top of that those other countries often lose their manufacturing contracts due to protests by other parts of the world but its become normalized for China to operate this way. 42 minutes ago, andy said: Good. They have only been helping China with the coverup. https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/16/asia/china-wuhan-coronavirus-ap-intl-hnk/index.html You made me read an entire CNN article and it in no way showed that WHO was covering anything up. It shows that China was slow to react. Beyond the article, there are strong indications that China knew about a public health scare back in November when the U.S. found out about it. Trump was given a brief about this in January. We're not even sure he bothered to read it. But the fact that the U.S. had this information and did not bother to relay it to WHO or the world in general is more of a coverup than what WHO has done. WHO as far as I'm aware is not able to probe other countries, and works to coordinate with them. They can only relay the information they're given and make recommendations based on that. I do believe Dr. Tedros made missteps as well, such as criticizing the U.S.'s move to halt travel between China. But it is not on the organization itself. We have to keep in mind that WHO relies heavily on the cooperation of every country in the world for accurate information. By insulting China, WHO would be shutting out the biggest country in the world by population, and doing so could have the world lose even more information on health. Also the fact that Trump thinks this international organization owes him loyalty because the U.S. funds the most is disgusting. He's just shifting blame off himself, because he had access to alarming information in January, called the virus a hoax, delayed any real response for weeks after it was declared a pandemic, and him and his administration have actively worked to dismiss and dismantle public health operations over the past couple of years. He is literally the single reason why the cases exploded in the states. Trump could have done a lot when it comes to foreign policy, but there's a lot more to blame than him. Schools were slow to react and close. Testing was not available in states and many people who were thought to have the virus were ignored and turned away. States didn't take the threat seriously until cases were confirmed, which would mean the state could be at least 14 days late to react. Places where people gather did not take the threat seriously. Governor DeSantis refused to close public beaches and allowed people to go down and celebrate Spring Break. The coming together of people from all over the South surely accelerated the spread of the virus. The blame is on Trump. But it's on so much more than him. It's on the governors who were slow to react or even refused to react, it's on the people who refused to listen and do their own research, and it's on the intelligence community for not only being slow to write the given information into reports and handing them in, but also for not coming forward with the information themselves. But that goes more into how we treat whistleblowers and any renewed fear of retaliation they face after Trump's impeachment handlings.

Trump is always on the table for a good kicking. Mind you this site is not very representative of political attitudes in general. Everyone here seems extremely left leaning. Twitter is not representative either. Many people can see the corruption of WHO, why should we poor millions of funding into a health body that is there to protect us when they don’t have our best interests at heart. It’s common sense. People and organisations should be accountable. They have their tongue on China’s taint. Why should we financially support that. I saw a thread the other week about lack of conservatives on this site. I am a fan of Gaga but not her messy politics. In the world of politics entertainers hold no weight for me. Let’s not forget they are all business people with a product to sell.

Where are they now as all of this Chinese coverup is being revealed? Where is pointing the figure at officials and leaders across party lines? Trump didn't call the virus itself a hoax but he called the severity of it a hoax. I understand my comment doesn't line up exactly with what he said and we shouldn't just dismiss the media's twisting of events, but I believe he knew what he was doing interjecting the word hoax in. In regards to China hiding deaths, I agree. But as I've said, WHO doesn't investigate independently I believe (which is probably in favor of ALL governments) and the tweet you pulled affirms that. They relay information, and that was the information they were given. In another comment on the thread I did also say that Trump isn't the only one to blame, Barbot and Pelosi are included. In my previous response to you I mentioned you "making me" read a CNN article, so I hope you're not mentioning Cooper in order to discredit me. I don't like that "News Organization". WHO has done quite a bit. It has shipped almost a million surgical and N95 masks, 1 million boxes of gloves, and over 100,000 gowns to 133 countries with another 2.8 million pieces of PPE ready to be shipped to 79 countries. That was as of April 7th (https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/donate). They started the solidarity trial, which will evaluate the effectiveness of 4 drugs & drug combinations in the treatment of the virus, This consists of over 90 countries and 900+ patients. They've also been working to fundraise. Trump has been threatening them for a long time, evident in his 2021 budget proposal, in which he looked to half their budget. You did provide me with correct information regarding the hoax situation and I appreciate that. As far as I am aware all my other points still stand, and I did not point fingers across party lines.
