Girl.. Just release it now digitally and move the physical release to a later date. It's not that hard

A lot of physicals are sold during the hype of the album. If the hype is gone, so are the orders for the album. And pre-orders can be cancelled if the album doesn't hold up with the consumer's expectations for the album. In addition people could cancel the album due to their financial situation.

Isn't that the labels own fault for not supporting an artist working from home?

What's their fault? They aren't really losing anything as long as they listen to the album and decide it won't hurt Charli's image. If anything it adds to her catalog and results in promo they didn't have to finance. I'm not sure if she owns the masters to that music and what the profit split is for it though.

However if your just releasing old songs, or songs theyve made in their mansions by themselves while the world is facing a crisis, go for it :ohwell:

Minus the mansion that sounds like what I’ve been doing for Blue for the past 6 months :air:

I think it's different for everyone.

For Gaga, I think she has learned she has a lot of power and she wants to use it for good. And releasing Chromatica right now, besides it having limited promo, would get in the way of her charity. Because she would be forced to incorporate Chromatica into everything she does. Which would make the album seem shallow and her charity stuff seem shallow.

I think it's good she wants to be wholly committed to one or the other.

Sam Smith was more of a business decision. People talk about political correctness and everything, but Sam's not an indie artist. There's other people involved in his music and they have to receive royalties as well.

Weeknd and Dua had to release. Anyone else choosing to release or delay I don't know about. But those are the decisions of them and their labels.

And I personally think anyone who is upset and looking to music as their sole escape, I suggest investing in other things to do. There's a lot of stuff to do inside besides play music.

It's not inappropriate at all. But it's also fine to postpone a release because of it. Eventually, it's just music and it won't affect anyone negatively (unless it does in some way that exploits the situation or something of that sort)

Bizarre how everyone is releasing music but not big companies’s artists

I wouldn't really say it's bizarre. Big companies want profit above anything, and in the current situation promos arent an option so less profit will come their way.

I think this depends

A lot of artists now don't even release physical albums or have huge amounts of promotion when their new song comes out. They just put the song out on streaming platforms as singles.

Charli XCX, Lauv, Kim Petras have all adopted to this type of music releases because it frees them from the pressure of promoting an album.

Charli has said a lot on this topic, she just wants to write new songs and not care about promo, once she's finished a song she's getting it out as soon as possible. The record label doesn't allow that but she found that if it's for a mix tape not an album the record label won't mind. In Charli's mind however the two are the same thing :ohwell:

Now they are all stuck at home so they write, they have all these songs why not let the fans have them while staying at home? So Troye Sivan released a new song and Charli is releasing songs as well. They promote it on their social media and release it soon after.

I don't think Gaga can do that lol :smh: She's too big of an artist the record label won't allow that. She will need tons of promotion and performances before the record label is happy. The record label will want her new album to have sales and numbers. (Probably why she leaked Aura back then when she got so frustrated she can't release songs early coz there's always careful planning )

Cause once you let it go you better know it's gone

Everybody is still releasing music. Why would anyone stop their artistry because of a virus? I actually find it foolish not to release music during this time.

It depends. With Gaga, Sam etc, i do think its a bit inappropriate. They arent the ONLY people to have created their respective albums, producers, mixers etc all deserve recognition and adequate payment. And in my opinion during this time of crisis that would HEAVILY affect the performance of their albums.
However if your just releasing old songs, or songs theyve made in their mansions by themselves while the world is facing a crisis, go for it :ohwell:

Payment literally wouldn’t be the problem though:.. The Weeknd did incredible his first week

Because his streaming is INSANE, Gaga relies more on physical sales and Gagas streaming is well...not great
Id rather wait til everyone who worked on the album (including dancers, choreography for performances etc, lighting directors, sound designers, mixers etc) can receive the benefit from it. IMO thats more important than trying to please your constantly whining fanbase :vegas:

I don’t think it’s necessarily appropriate but I can understand others viewpoints. I wouldn’t blame an artist for releasing an album right now, though. However, I think it would have been weird for Gaga to release when she so publicly fights for the health of everybody.
