Ziggy 11,889
Tbh I find The Fame to be the forgotten mother simply because it exists so much in isolation from her other albums which kind of all link. TFM to BTW to ARTPOP to Joanne. That is all a bit of a story to me. TF is like the genesis of that story. It’s a rad rad album that does what it does exceptionally well. Those hooks are IT. What is most interesting is how many “urban” sounds are on the album. That’s the one thing that dates it to its time. It doesn’t make it cringe to me, but I can timestamp it to ‘08 because it brushes and dusts the big urban radio trends of that year and throws them crazy into disco, dance pop, pop, and glam rock. RochestrMonstr 3,222
ARTPOP and Joanne have a lot more bashing going on in that other thread than The Fame. Where is the big dramatic post about them? People are allowed to have different opinions. I love The Fame but I still think it’s the weakest of her albums. I stand by it. (Although ARTPOP is a much worse era and was a worse time to be a fan)
Jose P 23,341
I mean it’s a great debut and back in the day it was very impressive, but it really hasn’t aged well. And on top of that, it’s not really as good as her other albums, that’s why many of us say it’s the worst. Not that it’s bad, there’s just better. Princess Zelda 726
I've been a little monster since The Fame and while I picked it as her worst and DO think it hasn't aged that well it doesn't mean I think it's bad I do think some songs could be considered filler-y compared to her other albums, but none are fillers in the sense other pop artists' filler songs are . I also think some of the best songs on the album, other than the hits, are the criminally underrated and overlooked ones like Brown Eyes, Again Again, Retro Dance Freak and Summerboy (this one I'm not that crazy about nowadays but it's still good and I remember many people implying it's a bad song also, I'm aware some of these were not part of the original tracklist/weren't on all versions of the album). PopFanatic 48
While not my favorite of her albums (that goes to TFM or BTW) The Fame 100% deserves respect. I know it seems obvious but let me state this: The Fame was Gaga's DEBUT album. Like this b**** really did all that! Not only did she create an album full of diverse-sounding songs with their own unique themes and ability to stand alone as singles, but she did this on her *debut* album. And she also put out not one, not two, but 6 amazing music videos. I'll also thank you for giving Gaga the props she deserves for her music videos. Not many people remember that most of the pop music videos in the mid-to-late 2000s before Gaga were pretty bland. It became a trend sorta for pop singers to just sit in one place and sing or walked through a field, etc. Not Gaga. Gaga gave an entire theater production and other singers followed suit. The Fame has so many different sounds and despite that fact, all feel connected to this idea of what fame is and what it means for her before and after becoming famous. My only critique is that I really feel like Starstruck is weaker than the rest of the album and probably could have been omitted. And also that I'll never forgive Gaga for not making Boys Boys Boys a single because that song SCREAMS radio. P.S. Gaga - still waiting for you to do an entire album of music videos. :P
