imnotyourbabe10 6,102
Hi all you cool cats and kittens , Wanted to share with you all some inspiring music during this precarious and frightening time across the globe. 90's singer/songwriter Jewel has released another song this year and it, to me, is one of her finest in the last 10 or so years. Kind of some folk and soul vibes, I think? She is apparently releasing a new record this year, too. Not sure about y'all but if this year brings (or has brought) us new Gaga, Alanis, Adele, Jewel, Mandy Moore, Kesha, Sarah McLachlan (?) and Lisa Loeb...it makes for a phenomenal music scene for women. Last year alone, with Dido and Marina's comeback...an old queen's dream! lol Per Jewel, some background on the song: Spoiler "Anxiety has been a teacher to me. It has caused me to learn there are only two basic states of being: dilated and contracted- and that every thought feeling and action led to one of those two states. Fear, anxiety, jealousy anger, greed all led to contraction. Joy, curiosity, observation, love, gratitude all led to dilation. I learned that if I was headed into a panic attack, I could hack my way into a dilated state by focusing very hard on a different feeling. I chose gratitude. It’s amazing how profound such a single thing can be if you feel it deeply enough. It’s a practice I still use today. I’m pleased to release this new song inspired by the transformative capability of a simple feeling." According to Wikipedia, the first song of her new album will be previously released, "No More Tears" (which was featured in a documentary about homelessness called "Lost in America"). In the "spoiler" below. Spoiler For anyone wanting some classic and contemporary Jewel, I included some below in the "spoilers" so as not to take up too much forum space Spoiler Outside of classic hits "Who Will Save Your Soul" and "You Were Meant for Me" and "Morning Song," "Hands" stands out as a pretty pertinent song right now. Be sure to check out her wonderful parody or satire of pop music with her album "0304" and "Intuition" She has still released great stuff the last ten years (even with a follow up album -- "Picking Up the Pieces" -- to her hit record "Pieces of You" but a stand out to me is a single that combines all of her genres (from folk/songwriting and country to pop) with "Two Hearts Breaking" Be sure to check out her other singles and records. There is so much to explore and to love. Happy to share more but didn't want to bore ya! Thanks for checking out the thread fellow Monsters! Now if only we could only go back to "Joanne" and get Gaga to collab with 90's female singer/songwriters like Sheryl Crow, Jewel, Alanis, Sarah McLachlan, Fiona Apple, etc. [I say this with full excitement for Chromatica because I am ready to blast off of this planet lol]
