Does Gaga need to revamp her ways of promotion?

Ignoring the pandemic, the era started out with tons of promotion. We had banners in Times Square, billboards, spotify ads, youtube ads, the Apple ads etc. But was it the most relevant way of promotion in 2020? Should they focus less on physical billboards and more on tik tok videos and social media bloggers?

She most certainly does. The Weeknd is doing an incredible job marketing his album with short films and signed album copies and posters for sale on his store and making over-the-top artistic visuals. Beyoncé did the surprise release of a visual album twice and it worked perfectly for her. Lady Gaga and Madonna definitely need to follow that lead and abandon the outdated form of promo of going to Jimmy Fallon or other cheesy shows for a half-assed attempt at comedy and some pre-recorded uninspired performances and outfits.

Billboards and small tv show performances are dated concepts and I wouldn’t say go for TikTok or social media bloggers, but at least create some genuinely special content and then make a billboard about them or find a big event to debut it at or tease it. Sadly, the recent content don’t even excite me as a fan, let alone the public who doesn’t follow her tweets or discuss her 24/7 on forums. I’d say go live, do Q&As on social media, interact with fans. Cardi B is more popular for her Instagram stories than her music, and she goes viral that way. Gaga doesn’t do that, and same for Madonna. It’s like both are stuck in a state in-between, neither marketing themselves like modern artists do no are rare and unreachable like Adele and break the internet with just a selfie on the beach or a low quality video at a party about her album’s release date...

Times have changed and so did the way people consume media and art. Also, people crave artistic well-made visuals and Gaga hasn’t been serving any of those recently even though she restarted the trend with revolutionizing music videos at the beginning of her career. She needs to get back to that and further evolve with that concept and abandon the whole social media teasing and promises because no one outside of this forum ever knows it cares about finding clues in tweets or promises made in 5 minute interviews.

Tik tok? Absolutely not. It’s embarrassing, cringey, and desperate. Drake’s latest single was literally created for Tik Tok to become viral which showcases his lack of artistry.

Gagas promo this era was planned to be fine, just it didn’t work out. Gagas promo is always great, I never see any problems with it but this era just needed a bit more.. interaction? like instagram lives and posts

No you all need to stop complaining that's the real issue here. Stupid Love literally released as the virus was spreading. She had a laundry list of plans and promo. Multiple surprise performances and all but it's cancelled due to the pandemic. There was probably even more stuff lined up that we don't even know about. Why are people still bringing this up its not happening and y'all make this thread every day. She's established and she doesn't need to do all these extras that her fans probably won't even care about.

When SL came out the pandemic was rising globally, so it was bad timing indeed.  I think barring we don’t have the plague of locusts for LG7 then we can judge the promo activities properly then.  For LG6 it’s all going to be different to what we are used to.

I feel like she’d get a lot of backlash if she did that and it would seem like she’s trying too hard. It works for newer younger artists because they’re part of the generation that’s on tiktok, but Gaga’s in her mid 30s, and more than a decade into her career. Imagine if Beyoncé started paying popular tiktok kids to make a dance challenge or something for her songs. It would be weird and desperate

There comes a point where scoring number 1s isn’t needed to stay relevant. They’re nice, but she’s a legend and doesn’t need to pay a teen to make a dumb video and go viral

reality’s tight if the music is right

But Gaga is one of the most successful recording artist of all time. So let let her continue to do her thing. You guys act like she fails at everything sometimes :oprah: when in fact she wins more than fails

No. She knows what she’s doing more than anyone here does, even if we don’t always agree with her choices.

I’m not a fan of Drake but it doesn’t sacrifice his artistry or whatever, it just shows that he’s taking creative routes to promote his music. Which is cool. We’re in new times and artists are trying new things.

I’ve yet to see one positive comment from you about...anything

Yes.

I feel like at the beginning of her career, she had a handle on how social media and promotion worked, and went hand in hand. She knew how to navigate the social sphere and use it to her advantage.

I don't think she doesn't that anymore, at all. I just think she doesn't care about it in the same way, so she treats it like an everyday person would. Which is fine.

I would like her to have at least one more era where she captivates the world again, but really connects with a more "hip" and mainstream audience, versus OG fans and the gays.

I'm talking about the promo BEFORE the virus. No one is complaining about the post-pandemic silence. That is not what this thread is about at all.
