So I guess u have 2 options. Either buy unisex and gender neutral stuff on everything, or u can make some assumptions (and be flexible if they turn out to be wrong)

I think a third option is the best one: buy any kinds of stuff, male, female, neutral, w/e and when the child is old enough to express personal wishes and preferences, go with what they say. Kids have a remarkable sense of self from a young age, and I think it's best to trust them :)

(Sorry for replying to you left and right, hard to get it all in one go)

Obviously fairly extreme examples, but they show the ridiculousness I've described in this thread pretty well I think

Not to go off topic a bit.. but this one is surprisingly kinda gender-neutral. :emma:   Though I agree, the cakes are a bit extreme.

I mean that would only apply after a certain age tho

A new born will not be able to communicate or make any sense of that stuff I guess that's where I was going at

First 2 years especially most parents will just make assumptions

These convos always remind me of my first 2 memories by the way when I was 2.5 years old (both memories just weeks apart) :flutter:. Sorry I know it's off topic 😅

Those are obviously from yee-haw people.. which I mean.. what do you expect? :emma:

I know it's extreme, I chose them that way on purpose. It's underlying the same idea. To me it's the same logic as buying toy cars vs Barbies

I've been to heaps of gender reveals/baby showers and I have never seen anything like these examples. These seem to be cakes for extremely conservative parents/rednecks.

I think we're still shaped by our first few years though, if you know what I mean. We learn how people treat us even if we don't know why. I know most parents will operate on their assumptions, and even the majority of children will identify as cis, but I think we're all limited by gender roles in one way or another, you know? If we teach total acceptance rather than simply tolerance, I think that is a very cool thing :gayhat:

Yeah, I chose these so we all view them from the same point of view. These are obviously silly. See reply below too :unicorn:

This.  Almost everyone has an internalized fear of encouraging their child to be anything other than cis.  They rule out that as an option.  Children should be raised with ALL perspectives- not just the perspective of being cis.  Yes cis is an option and I’m not saying it should be discouraged, I’m saying ALL ways of being should be encouraged. And unfortunately for most parents they take the cis-ONLY route.
