5SOS debuts at #1 in UK, Dua Lipa #2

Dua's numbers are still extremely impressive, considering physical has collapsed and digital consumption is down ~15%. 5SOS also had 4x as many preorders, so the fact she ended up only 500 sales behind is very impressive.

I'm confident she'll take the top spot next week, 5SOS on the other hand will be out of the top 50

Edit- Whenever a new female starts saying people on this site show how one sided they are, legit embarrassing.

Girl— I didn’t want to argue because I really respect you and usually agree with you on stuff. And you’re dragging me for not having a ‘discussion’ :bradley:

I’m not dragging you. I’m just pointing out the fact that you told them not to bother as if I’m some kind of delusional monster. I may not agree with @FfFfFfFF in this thread but I usually always positively react to their posts even after our previous discussions which I think he can confirm. I don’t have anyhing against you, I already said that i think you are one of the most objective users on here usually. I quite like you.

sis I know that, you're bringing things in that have nothing to do with what I was saying. Decades ago, pop USED to denote what was popular at the time, just like you mention with rock. but nowadays, pop music no longer literally means popular music. nowadays, pop music is it's OWN genre, regardless of what genre of music is currently popular.

you're the one who first came into the thread dragging Dua and bringing Gaga into the conversation

one of us is being an ATRLer, and it's not me

Pop used to be  what is nowadays called traditional jazz, then it became synonymous with rock. 90s had the R&B sound that was that while at the same time pop. Electronic combined with pop and created electro-pop. In the 2000s and 2010s pop and hip hop infused and you get songs like 7 rings or any Drake track which are both at the same time. You can't think a pop song from the 30s is the same as a pop song from 2020 because the genre continued to evolve and adapt.

Yeah and I don't want our discussion now to affect this.. I won't change my mind but we can co-exist with our different opinions. :vegas:

you don't have to copy and paste the wikipedia entry sis, I know pop music reflects its time. Ariana mixing hip-hop influences into her pop music doesn't make hip-hop pop, the same way Madonna working with Timbaland doesn't make urban music from the 00s pop music. Mixing a concurrently popular genre into pop music does not make that popular genre pop music, they're two different things.

Pure and bright bubblegum pop has always existed in those times, and that is what is considered pop when someone points to the radio and says "I love pop music". They usually mean Britney Spears, not Megan Thee Stallion, regardless of what other genre influenced the track

The first Gaga comparison made here is by a little monster who brought Dua down to praise Gaga. Let’s get that straight.

I don't want to prolong another subject one over who brings down who first.  It's not gonna happen for me with this blame game. It's gonna bring miss Dua and miss Ga more lashing and nonsensical paragraphs between little liddos vs little lipas. I will move on from this narrative. Thank you.

Please ignore the spelling in username. I am a Beyonce stan afterall.

I know and didn't copy-paste it. People have knowlegede to write an retrospect without copy-pasting wikipedia, you know. However mixing is not only resulting into hip hop influenced songs but into pop-rap songs.

If many people think of a genre in a wrong manner that doesn't make it right, in fact many people believe wrong things and different people can have different ideas of the same concept.

Pop is the genre of popular appeal, that's just the nature of the genre. Hip hop and trap became pop.

HOW do you lose a 5K album streak? Oh yeah, have your competition sell their album while off of COVID-19 panic...

Not to mention... on itunes the majority of 1 star reviews for FN are from 5SOS fans. Can these fandoms have some dignity?

let's agree to disagree then :vegas:

because if hip-hop and trap became pop, first of all the black community would rip you to shreds, and second,  I really fail to see what to make of Emotion, or Cape God, or Melodrama, or High Road, or Kiesza's newest single or the trillions of pop songs that came out in the last couple of years that have nothing to do with hip-hop and trap
