COVID 19 mortality estimated at 0.66% - The Lancet study

How many people die after being infected with the novel coronavirus? Fewer than previously calculated, according to a study released Monday, but still more than die from the flu.

The research, published in the medical journal The Lancet Infectious Diseases, estimated that about 0.66% of those infected with the virus will die.

That coronavirus death rate, which is lower than earlier estimates, takes into account potentially milder cases that often go undiagnosed -- but it's still far higher than the 0.1% of people who are killed by the flu.

When undetected infections aren't taken into account, the Lancet study found that the coronavirus death rate was 1.38%, which is more consistent with earlier reports.

So...goodish news? You should still try to avoid this thing at all costs though. Don't let yourself become a silent carrier or sleeper case where symptoms will escalate quickly when they take hold.

Figured this might settle some frazzled nerves but don't get complacent, ya know?

I heard the rates are lowering because of a mammal phenomenon knows as "herd immunity". Apparently the more ppl get infected with a virus the more immunity against the virus the entire human population gets as a consequence. Like even ppl who don't get infected will somehow develop an immunity (or something like that).

It's good news but it also means a ton of people get it, dont feel sick and spread it to vulnerable people who do have significantly high mortality rates than the general populace. It also means we could be looking at hundreds of thousands of deaths in the United States alone.

Edit: Young people, avoid interactions with old and sick people. Thats the biggest concern right now.

That means that if everyone gets infected and survives, they should be immune to the virus. This also applies to diseases that have a vaccine available, if everyone is vaccinated and you are not (yet) you have a really low chance of getting the disease, since everyone else is immunized. For COVID-19, however, this would take a long time and it would mean that a lot of people would die before we reached that point.

Right, which is the terrifying reality on the other end of this "good news".

Idk if it works like that :poot: but we can definitely attempt to share antibodies through plasma donations from people who've recovered.

Unfortunately—not saying this is what I wish for—this is something that may have to run its course. Vaccines could take 12-18 months and disgracefully all the damage will have been done by then. People need to exercise all the precautionary measures until further notice. And I do agree the biggest problem is that asymptomatic carriers may end up transmitting to someone highly vulnerable before they have a chance to develop immunity. The other big factor is that the “Herd Immunity” would take months and by that time again, damage is done with death rates in the higher thousands potentially millions.

I mean I been saying this.

Milder cases are less likely to get confirmed and milder cases won't result in death usually (unless there's a sudden turn for the worst)

So the confirmed numbers will obviously inflate the real numbers officially. The media likes drama and sensationalism so this point of many mild cases being missed so the real death rate being lower obviously conviniently will often not even be mentioned as a side point or footnote so to speak

But yes like u said. It's still much higher than the regular flu and spreads very easily so regardless we can't be complacent

I just don't approve of withholding details to make something seem even worse than it is and scare ppl or make them panic.

Well that’s what’s been pissing me off is that there have been quite a handful of highlights and positives during this crisis but no major media outlet wants to report on that. This is why I stopped trusting anything that comes out of MSNBC, CNN, Fox News, or any other major news network here in the US. They love instilling moral panic.

Yeah, but you know how people are :rip:

Kids were going to spring break here when the "7%-14%" number was being thrown around. Now that we're seeing a "confirmed 1.38%, probably 0.66%" number, there's a lot of people who are going to take this a lot less seriously than they should.

"I knew before they knew, really. I knew this tremendous uh, germ, or whatever you want to call it would be nothing which is why I sent the PPE off to Gyeena last month, ok 👌🏼 the LameStream Media will bury this wonderful figure, this fantastic figure, in an effort to really uhh hurt me. Fake news, folks, fake news. They want the economy to fail but we just keep on winning, folks 👌🏼"

The 25th amendment is sitting right there. Just saying.
