Chic 20,830
I honestly think Gaga is avoiding performing music at this time because there’s so much backlash to celebrities using music as a way to comfort people recently. It’s viewed as a shallow, useless act by the GP and sometimes even insensitive or tone-dead, especially coming from a class of people that has the privilege to isolate themselves in mansions, get anything they need ordered because their money is limitless when it comes to essentials, and access to immaculate healthcare. It would probably be in her best interest to explain what she’s doing to actively combat the virus (she seems to have a big plan), let everyone know how they can help, and then be seen as a beacon of hope because she’s one of the celebrities doing something tangible and substantial. It would do a lot for her image and separate her from the “mindless crazy pop lady” she was seen as early in her career. Instead of promoting her album, she can use her time in the public eye to showcase productivity. The music can come later. But her actions during this time are important and will honestly benefit her in the long run sales-wise, as a bonus. She’s very likeable, especially to the general public when she consistently separates herself from other pop stars with her personality and intentions. I don't disagree but is anyone really facing backlash? People were praising Mariah, Alicia, Billie after the Iheart thing.
Chromatography 10,186
Who views it as shallow and tone deaf? What's tone deaf is your makeup line posting about a discount on a bundle during a pandemic and refusing to take the post down after being dragged all to hell. IIRC Ellie Goulding partnered with some foundation? And people like Lights and Charli are streaming performances or stuff with other artists to help people pass the time. It's not like these people are promoting their new albums, either. It's stuff that's years old, because some people find comfort in listening to new live performances with their favorite artists and songs.

River 117,038
These people are the problem, not the celebrities.. they are simply jealous that someone else's house is bigger than theirs Celebrities job is to entertain, even during bad times and most of them are not getting money for that, also they are losing money too and also their team.. they are an independent business after all. So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

Magui 2,628
i'm not glad she is not performing .... i know i would like to see her performing regardless. There is this fear, idk, stress on the back of head these days that doesn't let me appreciate things the same way, idk how to explain it better, but would still enjoy it, but not the same way, you know. The thing is Gaga doesn't want to do it, she can't even perform with her dancers, with all the things she had planned. Plus idk what goes in her head, but she probably can't focus on promoting an album in the middle of this pandemic, it messes with our vibe, our mood, even our ability of laughing and being freely happy. So she is better focusing on something to help, i bet she feels more useful this way. And regardless of what people say, what matters is that she will contribute to help in this pandemic. dynamite 59,489
There are always people who will complain, but that's no reason to be against it. If it's done tactfully and not in a "hey monsters I've just released a coronavirus inspired lip gloss called battle for your life" profiteering kind of way it should be fine. The album was coming anyway. She's not using the virus as an excuse to sell a product. I feel that just because there's a pandemic doesn't mean we should all sit around screaming in terror, avoiding anything that might bring us joy. We should be aiming to be as happy as possible. Consuelanono 238
There has literally been no backlash to celebrities going about their business. It wouldn’t be different for Gaga. She just thinks she can help fix the world of all its problems, her Bono complex. She needs to be brought back down to Earth. She can’t do anything about Covid-19 that would take up her time. Nobody can except doctors working on a vaccine. She can donate money - that’s about the most she can do. And that takes no time at all.
freebit 6,240
I agree, but for completely different reasons. People want to be dazzled and distracted. I see nothing wrong per se with music performances. The only thing is pop singers (who we associate with spectacle) performing their cheery, energetic tunes in leggings and hoodies with bad lighting is so freaking depressing. It's just a reminder of the situation we're in. I don't want to be reminded of it. I want to escape for a couple of minutes. Like that video of that Bad Girls Club girl spilling juicy tea about Taylor Kinney - I kiii-ed so much from that that I actually forgot the hellscape we are living in for an hour or so. So the ideal thing is for her to do something that will entertain us, but not necessarily a living room performance. Best case scenerio is something that can enhance her music without being so dreary. It'd be nice (or kind) to do something really cute and creative, like it'd be fun if she did a video of her performing on the grounds of her house, but like, make it real extra. Stuff like this: Alternately, even something like this, at least it would be kind of funny:
