I've been noticing a lot of people on here responding to criticism or complaints about Lady Gaga and Chromatica with some form of the argument that there are bigger problems going on in the world right now. I wanted to start a calm and civil (please lord :air: ) discussion about whether this is reasonable. I'm starting this thread because I have yet to come to a conclusion and would be interested in everyone's perspective.

I think that we should always be kind and respectful in our dialogue with one another, pandemic or otherwise. I also think that this era is not going great so far (for which Gaga is not responsible in my opinion), and I understand why so many people are so upset. I'm one of them. I also think that when we come onto GagaDaily, for a lot of us it is a form of escapism. To be reminded of the virus at every turn is personally quite distressing. All I want to do when I come on here is talk about Gaga and Chromatica, cry a little about the delay with you all and discuss what's going on with the era. And it is all quite inconsequential in the grand scheme of things, but in a way these little conversations about such little things can be so valuable.

Ultimately, the question is whether our discussion around Gaga should change (e.g. less complaining) because of the virus? Or should our discussion be a form of escapism, by which for even a couple minutes we can pretend in our minds that Gaga delaying Chromatica is the worst thing in the world right now?

Sending love and wishes for good health to everyone

REALITY

Everyone's upset and disappointed about the album delay. I feel like we need to address that right off the bat. The people who are defending her position aren't any less disappointed we aren't getting an album in 2 weeks. We're just as disappointed as everyone else.

That said, to answer your question, I don't think that the discussion needs to change, but instead the mindset and the attitudes some people have need to change. We can have civil and calm discussions if you guys allow that to happen. You can't expect to make a rude or aggressive comments to Gaga or her team and expect to have people answer you in a civil manner.

I think we should be allowed to have discussions about the album delay. I think people should be allowed to express their opinions about if they don't agree with her decision to delay the album. I think that's all good and valid. What isn't good and valid is seeing some of the hurtful and overly emotionally-charged comments about how she "doesn't care", how her album should be leaked because it's "what she deserves", how she "doesn't give a sh*t about her fans anymore", etc., etc.

What a perfect response :flutter: I really agree with everything you've said. It's not the pandemic that's really the issue here, it's people not acting respectfully, which would be an issue in any case.

I think fans have a right to express their disappointment but I've been seeing alot of derogatory comments about her choosing to do something with the WHO instead of releasing music.

You can be sad that she's not focused on music right now and it's okay to talk about that but I don't feel it's right to drag her for wanting to use her platform to make a difference.

A big thing has happened in the world that we've never seen before. Many countries have come to a stand still and it's scary. There are more important things than entertainment and we have enough to get us through a few months of quarantine anyway. There are many different streaming services now with thousands of movies and TV shows and there are artists you've yet to discover on Spotify. There are books to read. There is so much we can do to get us through this difficult time.

If I’m being honest, it does kinda irritate me when fans act as if the album delay is the worst thing in the world as you said, because I’m scared everyday of getting the virus. I have to work and can’t go under quarantine. It’s just like... if that’s your biggest concern right now - an album being delayed while staying at home, then consider yourself lucky.

People provide very good answers above.

People will do whatever they want, to me it's just the way people use words, there is no need to be so derogatory, so catty and cynical regarding what she chooses to do.
