I mean I like it. It’s miles better than Perfect Illusion, that’s for sure. But I think we all know she’s capable of much better. The fact that she’s the queen of choruses and failed to write one is just...inexcusable. If it had a big chorus it would be a fantastic song.

you dont need a big chorus to have a fantastic song

you want something thats repetitive, easy to remember, sticks with you, etc. if you hear a new song on the radio, usually its a phrase from the chorus that sticks with you, however a fcking essay for a chorus probably wouldnt

in music, its best to keep the song short and sweet to avoid making it a fcking bore and a b*tch to listen to

I...disagree. Especially with Gaga. She’s just not the type to be so lazy that she can’t be bothered to write a chorus or to basic herself down for a radio hit...yet here we are. Every single one of her massive hits have “essays” for choruses. Born This Way is a mouthful and it was a giant number 1.

Ok to be fair 95% of her choruses are basically just the same 2-4 lines and/or the song title repeated over and over again. SL is no different than everything else lol... Very lazy songwriter

The difference, I think, is I want your stupid love is only one line. And it’s not a melodic one, either. It was probably slapped over a preexisting beat drop. For instance, “Can’t read my, Can’t read my, poker face” is only one line too - but it’s extremely melodic and crafted well so it doesn’t feel like an empty chorus.

We wish. Honestly this is the kind of song she’s capable of. I don’t care if it’s fake or not, some people are just talented and this is on her level. Stupid Love...not so much.

I feel like a good chorus would be:

"I want your stupid love! (Love) And I need it now! More than ever! Oh! I want your stupid love! (Love) And I know you got it! Deep within your heart! Oh!"

... Someone should record that over it to see how it sounds :vegas:

Anything is better than “I want your stupid love, love uh uh uh uh oh oh....oh oh oh oh.”

I will hand it to SL, though - the prechorus (all I ever wanted was love) is absolutely magical and a total MOMENT.

Well it's different, and it will take time to adjust, personally I think it's an amazing song, it's a perfect start to the era, and it's a DANCE song, not just a pop song :vegas:

Also yeah that prechorus is heavenly :firega:

It's why I like her music because it's easy to f*cking remember and they're very catchy

like

"lets play a lovegame play a love game

do you want love or do you want fame

are you in the game?"

"that boy is a monster (m-m-m-monster)"

"can't read my, cant read my

no he cant read my poker face"

"I want your love and your lovers revenge

you and me could write a bad romance"

"I want to be that GUY (G-U-Y)"

"John Wayne!

dat da da deet do da da deet do

baby lets get high

John Wayne!"

"You cant have my heart and

you wont use my mind but

do what you want with my body (do what you want with my body)"

"I've had enough, this is my prayer
That I'll die livin' just as free as my hair"

"Stop callin', stop callin'
I don't wanna think any more
I left my head and heart on the dance floor"

So, your case on "choruses should be long" is just irrelevant. It's dumb and pointless. Try again.

I really am thankful to the pop gods that it’s a dance song and a dance album. *it’s been 84 years.gif*

I was afraid she’d never go back to dance music. :messga:

Gaga leaves the story telling in her verses, prechoruses, bridges, etc

"Just a second
It's my favorite song they're gonna play
And I cannot text you with
A drink in my hand, eh
You shoulda made some plans with me
You knew that I was free
And now you won't stop calling me
I'm kinda busy"

"I asked my girlfriend if she’d seen you 'round before
She mumbled something while we got down on the floor, baby
"We might’ve f*cked, not really sure, don’t quite recall
But something tells me that I’ve seen him, yeah"

"I'm gonna lace up my boots
Throw on some leather and cruise
Down the streets that I love
In my fishnet gloves, I'm a sinner
Then I'll go down to the bar
But I won't cry anymore
I'll hold my whiskey up high
Kiss the bartender twice, I'm a loser
I'm gonna marry the night
I'm gonna marry the night"

"I know that Mom and Dad think I'm a mess
But it's alright, because I am rich as piss
When I ignite the flames and put you in my mouth
The grass eats up my insides, and my brunette starts to sprout
Introducing, ladies and gentleman, Mary Jane Holland!"

"Toast, one last puff and two last regrets
Three spirits and twelve lonely steps
Up heaven's stairway to gold
Mine myself like coal
A mountain of a soul
Each day, I cry
Oh, I feel so low from living high"

"I wanna roll with him, a hard pair we will be
A little gambling is fun when you're with me (I love it)
Russian roulette is not the same without a gun
And baby, when it's love, if it's not rough, it isn't fun (fun)"

"Every John is just the same
I'm sick of their city games
I crave a real wild man
I'm strung out on John Wayne"

"I want your ugly, I want your disease
I want your everything as long as it’s free
I want your love
Love, love, love, I want your love, hey!
I want your drama, the touch of your hand, (Hey!)
I want your leather-studded kiss in the sand
I want your love
Love, love, love, I want your love
(Love, love, love, I want your love)"

"Now, it's time to free me from the shame
I gotta find that peace, is it too late or
Could this love protect me from the pain?
I would battle for you (Even if we break in two)"

again, more evidence that a lengthy chorus isn't necessary and it's sometimes better to leave the story telling out of the chorus. think of a song as an essay. the chorus is the thesis statement. it should be the part of the song that sticks with people. its the part of the song that people remember. the verses, bridges, prechoruses, etc are the rest of the essay. They back up the thesis statement that's too short to be presented on its own. Does it make sense?
