Laughing at people who think COD was a lyrically superior album

Me laughing at people who think COD was somehow a lyrical powerhouse. 

Confessions on a Dancefloor was Madonna's big comeback album, but it was also her most lyrically basic album since her debut. 

I Love New York says hi.

Sonically it is exquisite from start to finish. It deserves all the acclaim it has received, but please turn in your Madonna stan card or even your Gaga stan card if you believe the lyrics are anything other than basic. 

She was having fun and getting people to the dance floor she wasn't transcending like she did with ROL or Madame X. 

Take it for what it's worth, the best dance album of the 2000's.

It's true that the album relies a lot on "simple" lyrics and lyrical repetition but that doesn't mean there wasn't a concept there. Songs like Future Lovers, Let It Will Be, How High, Isaac,... are incredible from a conceptual angle. You just didn't try to get what she's trying to say is the real problem here.

Sorry and Hung Up was lyrically basic too. She had like three well written songs on the entire album. Most of the album was basic, lyrically. The album is a masterpiece for it's sound. Madonna has 12 better written albums on her discography. Honestly I am not throwing any shade.

I mean it’s kinda true. I personally don’t listen to it for its lyrics, but for the the melodies and production. It just has a very fun, club, dance vibe. It’s sonically very pleasing. It’s a perfect example of a perfectly executed retro album. But it does have great lyrics, I personally really like Future Lovers, Isaac, How High’s lyrics.

But... I just don't understand how you can't distinguish between lyrics that are written in a simple way and conceptual presentation This is Madonna. There's always a secret message. And Confessions is FULL of them. Just because they're not shouting at you to look at them doesn't mean they're not there.

I mean, I get it. They're not the most memorable, spectacular lyrics but to call them "basic" and imply they're meaningless is a step too far.
