Why do people keep comparing Gaga with other popstars

Because she was THE POP STAR. Same thing used to happen with Madonna, etc.

But let's be honest, we all need a standard to compare everything. And truth is that we also compare "now Gaga" with the "old Gaga", because she used to deliver 100%, and she's not gonna do that ever again, we get the part influenced by health reasons, but still, I think she's kind of over it, and I can perfectly picture her retiring in 5 years after 2 more albums, the Chromatica Ball, another international tour, and a good-bye Vegas residency

Gaga is the blueprint of a modern 21st century pop star... of course everyone is going to be compared to her.... just like everyone was compared to Madonna (and still is, sometimes)

Someone like Gaga will never be able to retire from performing. 

Thats why she continually finds new ways to perform. She is an all-around entertainer and loves doing it. 

It’s unfortunate that her body doesn’t allow her to do it like she once did, but she was born to do it.

I agree with your post 100%! Honestly, I think the reason people compare Gaga with other artists is because of how big of a deal she was from 2008 to 2014. I mean, every move and thing she did was such an event and then her career took a nosedive, or at least compared to that incredible run she had in the beginning. Her career was still super strong after 2014 (Joanne, Superbowl, ASIB, etc) but nothing like it was earlier on. That being said, I can not think of a single artist in the past 10 years that has caused such a big ruckus in the music industry. Yes, we have Taylor Swift or Adele and they are successful but their impact on the music scene is minimal and they don't really have the "wow" factor Gaga has. Critics comparing pop stars with Gaga is actually an honour and I think it goes to show how impactful and iconic Gaga was in her height and STILL is. 

About Gaga not being on top of the world again, I do agree but I think she still has incredible drive and passion. I think those things alone will make her very successful in the long run. When most artists take a break between albums, they maybe feature in a song or two or they release a perfume. Gaga on the other hand starred and wrote music for a massive movie (ASIB), won numerous awards and released a beauty brand She does not half ass anything and I honestly thing she still has a lot of fire in her. I truly think she is as ambitious as Madonna but I do not think she cares the most about the charts, more likely she cares about them a bit but I think her #1 priority is either becoming a legend or getting critical acclaim for being a versatile musician.

A lot of people don't want to admit it, but there's absolutely an element of misogyny & ageism to the situation. Women have always been pitted against one another, but I feel like social media has made it worse because people can say whatever behind a keyboard and then have it amplified in an echo chamber. Twitter has also in some ways exposed some critics about how they view "professional" behavior....I saw a few music critics tweet Lorde/Billie and Billie/Lana things that were very petty and not just normal comparisons.

For example, in the movie & TV world, you see things like Margot Robbie is a better actress/prettier than Jennifer Lawrence...and so on and so on.  Gaga's always been polarizing, but back in the day some pitched her as "younger with better vocals" than Madonna. Megan Thee Stallion has better flow and is "sexier" than Cardi and Nicki.....Lorde's been replaced by Billie.

Men are pitted against one another, too, but never to the same degree. The most infamous beefs between men are/were often instigated by the male artists themselves, and not fans/critics.

True, but no one stays "on top" like that forever and Gaga's still massive (and more critically acclaimed now). I mean, even Taylor isn't doing 1989 #s anymore and while some of it can be chalked up to streaming...not all of it can.  I agree that part of it isn't because she's not "everywhere" anymore, but I also feel like this belief that a star has to be the biggest in every aspect and if they aren't they are a failure and there isn't room for other artists...can be linked to internalized mosgyny. There can only be one, and so on.

I like BL & DSN, and I think DSN is her better track through her entire discography, but some how I think this comparing is start from "DSN better than SL" to "FN is better than SL, Dua serve something Gaga lacked (?)"
