What If this was China's plan? They knew about it but didn't say anything  :billie:

Wrong. :billie:

This narrative that "China covered up & botched the early response" is a lie.

- December 27, China learned of the virus
- December 30, China's CDC made an announcement
- January 3, China alerted the U.S.

https://fair.org/home/coronavirus-alarm-blends-yellow-peril-and-red-scare/

The U.S. has repeated this false narrative that China "covered up" its early response & "whistleblower" Li Wenliang so many times that people actually think its true. Read this piece on how China acted extremely swiftly and why Li is not even a whistleblower.

Li Wenliang was NOT a whistleblower. China learned of the virus on Dec 27. Li posted about it to a private WeChat group on Dec 30—AFTER China's CDC had made a public announcement. In fact, Li was a CCP member who said he planned to return to the frontline fight once recovered.

The reason the US is pushing this lie that China "botched its early response" is because the US is the one botching its response and needs a scapegoat to channel Americans' rage into sinophobia. The truth is that China acted swiftly while the US leaves its people stranded to die.

The more the US disastrously botches its COVID-19 response, the more U.S. media will push lies about China to distract Americans from the US' missteps & funnel their rage onto China. Soon, Americans will be calling to bomb China & round up Chinese people and no one will bat an eye.

I mean considering it has 3-4x the population of Italy and almost 6x spain's population

edit: actually noy "almost 6x" but more than 7x spain' population

But China has 1.4 bil habitants and ~81,000 contaminated.
Italy and Spain have been on quarantine for a while now, USA still not.
France has been in quarantine for almost 2 weeks, schools/universities etc are closed since 3 weeks, and we do 4K per day while the epidemy is at its peak now. Yesterday the USA got in one single day 14K new cases which is half of what France got in total (30K total cases so far and epidemy is at its peak now)... This is very scary for the USA...
The USA's numbers will be a disaster as there is still no complete quarantine, and Satan Trump doesn't even want to invest in medical material as I saw this morning on Twitter.
You'd need 2 weeks of complete quarantine to see the numbers go down, if it's 14K per day now, imagine what it will be in 2 weeks considering how fast the virus is spreading

Is there any states in lockdown in the US ?

There’s quite a few. The rules for it aren’t as severe as China’s lockdown was though. There’s still a lot of stuff open and the list of “essential” businesses is really long

reality’s tight if the music is right

How so?

Italy has way more deaths than the US with a roughly equal amount of confirmed cases. The death rate should be the same (approximately) across different countries. So a higher death rate implies less tests being done.

Most people think Italy's deaths are high because of their old population, but Germany has some of the lowest death rates with an age distribution in the population very similar to Italy (they are the #2 and #3 'oldest' countries in the world, iirc). That's because Germany is doing a really good job at testing.

The fact that the US has a low death rate can imply that either (a) testing is being done well or (b) not all deaths are reported or (c) a mix of both, assuming a similar death rate (correcting for age and health). But I think you can pretty much say with some certainty that Italy's confirmed cases are deflated and in reality closer to 500k than to 80k.

I trust the Chinese data because their death rate seems accurate and the spread in other countries follows pretty much the exact same pattern.

How is this a fair comparison. We have way more people than Italy tf

This isn't a comparison... it's simply the numbers for where the majority of cases lie at the moment.

No one is saying the outbreak in the US is currently worse than it is in Italy. However, the US is still the epicenter now and it's in the best interests of most countries to block all travel from not just China and Italy/Spain but also the US.

the US was supposed to be the most prepared country in the world for a pandemic

A country where people fears going to the doctor becouse they cannot afford that from the economic point of view?

NO, the US isn't the most prepared country from the health-care point of view.

The most prepared countries are the Europeans (and Candada), aka the ones with a public-free-universal health care system, and not a private-payed one like in the US.

Is there a chance the virus will be much more controllable and less dangerous once the temperature rises? Or is there no correlation between these two things?

No. And the other half of the planet will have temperatures going down.

Italy have one of the world's oldest populations mixed with overwhelmed health system. Germany hasn't been overwhelmed yet, which is the goal after containment is not a possibility, which it isn't now.
