back then view numbers weren't so monumental. when people started to fight for 24h records (hello, bad blood, etc etc) & k-pop became more mainstream, views skyrocketed into the mess we have today

I think the older generation starting to use YouTube as well, and also the fact that developing Countries started to get more accessible better bandwidth internet played a role as well

In 2011 when Born This Way came out believe it or not there was still a lot of people globally using YouTube now that weren't

Besides the older generation catching up to YouTube use, some people don't realize how many in the developing world only joined the internet grid in the last decade. And some had internet in those countries before that but it wasn't always strong enough internet to manage video streaming

So it wasn't just fans fighting for 24h records even if that does play a role

Yeah cuz in the developed world mass internet adoption began late 90s to early 2000s but in much of developing world for many people connection (or at least connection that can handle videos with relative ease) began a decade later after YouTube had already taken off

So although it hasn't been mentioned much on GGD as a reason for increased YouTube views later several years...

I'm convinced it's a major contributing factor
