Goodness me, absolutely stunning. But I feel like she needs more facial expressions.

Whoever styled her also did a fantastic job!

This whole Dua Lipa thing got me thinking. I see there's a huge buzz around her and I'm here like - "What's even so special about her? She delivers great stuff but as far as I know, nothing out of the ordinary..."

BUT

Was this how Madonna fans felt about Gaga when she first appeared?

Am I becoming an old, close-minded little monster?

Will I ever get over the fact that Gaga isn't the main trendy pop singer?

I'm scared

I respect that people have opinions, but I think that there is room for more than just Gaga. Like I said in my status update, Gaga will always be my #1 fave. I stan Dua too. Dua is active, performed on like every award show available at that moment. Dua shows improvement. She is getting real popular here.

Did anyone expect Dua to break the BNA curse?

Dua is smart to release an album called Future Nostalgia when a new decade started.

I wish both Gaga and Dua all the success because they both deserve!

I want to give her a chance, especially cause of whats going on in the world right now. I've always seen Dua as a basic one hit wonder girl, and New Rules was just not it for me.

I am GLAD that she has confirmed its coming in 2 weeks because that means that Gaga's album is most likely not delayed too :tony:    so yeah, I'll give her a chance

I love love love Dua, but she's not an icon after a few years in the business.

Come on, Vogue.

I agree. Nowadays people overuse the word 'icon'.

It is very hard to be an icon. Might be biased but even Gaga is not yet an icon but very close to being one, in a few years in my opinion.

The term icon literally, for me, means that, the artist is very recognizable, that one aspect of their art or their looks instantly makes you think of them. Elvis - his voice, dark hair, white jumpsuit. MJ, white glove, white socks, hat. Marilyn, red lips blonde hair, beauty mark, white dress etc, combined with world breaking records, and immense success worldwide for a long period of time, not to mention, a longevity, and the power to inspire a whole new generation of artists that are coming up.

Dua is just getting started, not particularly loved worldwide by different ages/demographic, nothing 'recognizable' about her, no world records broken (but even that is not enough to be an icon, a combination of all of it, is to me).

naaaaah, don't worry. Dua Lipa is slaying atm, she's doing a really good job so far with the second album, kudos to her and I love what's she been serving, but you can't compare her to how refreshing/new/shocking/impactful/... Gaga was when she came on the scene. And you don't need to be a Gaga stan to see the difference.

She represents pop music right now which I feel can warrant the title of icon. I feel like every year has an "icon" that represents that moment in time.

I 100% agree with everything you just said - basically how I feel in a post. Not taking anything away from Dua, she's a pop superstar but there's nothing iconic about her at this point in her career.

I think someone can become an icon or iconic once their most influential work / peak phase is behind them and obviously stands the test of time. Music uses the term 'icon' so loosely nowadays, it's ridiculous to me. So do music fans. Young kids these days think everything is iconic, it drives me nuts.

I think Gaga has earned her status as a Pop Icon to be honest and I'm not being biased here - she's one of the few artists who has done so at such an early time in her career because of the impact her music and personality had on the industry, her peers and music fans globally.

Yeah I don’t think she’s an icon just yet, she’s still missing that oomph that Gaga and Madonna had for example.

But she’s slaying and working really hard, so this new album will help her get that status. She might not be there yet, but she’s getting close.
