Kanye :Ā I told her the line she accepted it.

Also Kanye : doesn't tell he'll call her a bitch on that line, so she didn't accept the line bc it was missing a word :rip:Ā

Like, she has the right to not want to be called a bitch and the way he did NOT tell her about theĀ bitch part just shows how he probably knew she wouldn't approve,Ā so maybe he was like lemme record the conversation and then twist it is some drama comes out of it bc I shouldn't be calling someone I know a bitch in a song.

Well she presented him with his MTV Video Vanguard award like a year or two before this all went down.So they had patched up their friendship, at least for PR or shock-value.

Oh yeah I forgot about that

I lied I listened anyway.

Man she is so smart and so self aware. I loved the beginning especially when she talks about how she knows how people will react.

He kept saying "since we are friends". When did they become friends between the VMA incident and that phone call? Did I miss something or is it a behind the scenes makeup?

I think they put their differences aside... Kanye repeatedly say they're friends but I doubt Taylor viewed him as a friend even after them "making up".

Watch those three 2-minutes clips in the following twitter thread

And? That just tells me everything we already know. He tells her about the made her famous line later on, it's just not in this clip. Like I said, it's the part her fans don't want to bring up. Notice how he really psyches her up for that and she's all nervous, asking if it's going to be mean. Then he tells her and she laughs in this really wordly way and then says "that's not mean." Aren't you surprised that she thought that? The line he told he was actually meaner than what it ended up being. He said "might owe me sex" when it became "might still have sex." The first one is worse, that suggests that Taylor will have to give in to him, whether she wants it or not, that she has to do it out of obligation. It's certainly a very morally questionable line and not at all feminist. But does apparently feminist Taylor pick up on that and take offence? No, she laughs and says it's not mean! She's flattered that she's being viewed in a sexual light and people will make dirty jokes and ship them now! Do you really think such a woman would take offence to being called a bitch? Please. Taylor's smart enough to know when it's just used in a rap context and doesn't mean anything bad. She just saw an opportunity to play the victim and ran with it. She stitched him up just as much or better than he stitched her up.

Maybe so but at least I've got interesting insights. I just see through your fave, is all. I'm surprised such a plainly manipulative person still has any fans left.

Or he added in that part later and thought if she'd already approved every part up until now, she probably wouldn't mind that bit. Songs go through demos and change and Kanye's always changing his mind regarding album titles as it is. Kim said in KUWTK that Taylor actually helped him re-write parts. Is she referring to the "owe me" to the "might still have" part? Taylor has been using the word bitch in her own lyrics these days. Surely she must know there's a bit of artistic licence with that word? Knowing that you can sometimes say it but not mean it in a bad way? Knowing that you can put it in a song just to make it sound cooler but not mean anything bad by it? Knowing that it doesn't need to always have misogynistic intent behind it?

Ā

Taylor sayingĀ ā€œI thought it was going to be like, ā€˜That stupid, dumb bitch'".

And then what happened to "ill send you the lyrics and the full song before it's out" ? He never did. :)Ā

He changed the lyric ofĀ the songĀ without telling her andĀ without sending it to her like they previously agreed to:lmao:Ā

I'm sorryĀ I just.. - he knew it was wrong.Ā

"That stupid dumb bitch" is much worse than just using the word as a substitute for "girl" and you know it. I'm not denying that Kanye is no angel in this either. But at least he's a lot more upfront about it. He's self-deprecating in his own lyrics. But, come on. There's far worse things to complain about than a guy calling a woman a bitch in his song. And I say that as a feminist. If you want to hear a song where a woman is put on blast, listen to Eminem diss Mariah Carey in The Warning. Makes Kanye look virtuous by comparison. Taylor should be lucky none of her musician exes have ever made a song like that about her. But if she keeps on burning bridges, she's really going to cross the wrong person one day.

Context matters. That word can be really triggering to some women who have had it used against them. She said on the phone call she didn't want to be called that so it isn't like she came out of left field with it.Ā

Well what if it was, do you really think a gay person would take offence to being called a f*g? Or do you really think a person of colour would take offence to being called the n-word?

Depending on the context (who’s saying it firstly & what it’s being used in) & it also depends on the person, Taylor probably (Edit; definitely)Ā didn’t like someone who has been really mean to her before calling her a b*tchĀ

Seeing as she fine with the context of the first part, that should extend to the next part, surely? I didn't watch the whole call. Did she really say she didn't want to be called that? But I still stand by my reasoning that she tried to come across as a complete victim when the song dropped by acting like she knew nothing about it, never once mentioning that Kanye talked it over with her. That's why Kim released the video, to prove she knew about it beforehand. Why won't anyone bring that up? It's clear this is really the moment that Kim's referring to by calling her a liar.

Those words are different. They have much more sanctioned usage. In contract, the word "bitch" isn't even seen as a swearword in many circles now, you can say it without getting censored and all sorts. You could say it shows how much misogyny has been ingrained into our society. But I digress. Most women know it has ok usage and bad usage and it's clear when someone's just saying it for effect. I don't believe for a minute Taylor didn't realise that. She just saw it as a great opportunity to twist things and make herself a victim, though. And Taylor and Kanye were friends at this point. He calls her a friend in the call, saying that's why he's consulted her to begin with because he didn't want to be disrespectful. I think that tells you that he didn't mean the word in a bad way. Many rappers do use this word to refer to women in their work, it's just rap lingo, they're not all raving misogynists. Sure, you've got every right to dislike that but understand the culture and context of using the word in this situation and accept it for what it is. This comes from a feminist woman who listens to rap. Taylor just showed herself up as being too sensitive and not understanding the rap culture by going nuts over being called a bitch. It comes with the territory of a rap song. She could have done wonders for her street cred if she'd accepted it and been cool about it but no, she chose to play miss priss. And her fans laughably thought that made her the victor. No, girl. The way to win over your enemies is to act like they don't even bother you. Her overreaction and her need to refer to Kanye since on her current album shows she really needs to get over herself. If she wants to uphold her newfound feminist principles, she needs to learn to be tougher than that.

But what I’m saying is you can’t criticise Taylor for not liking being called a b*tch, it’s her preference. She doesn’t need to toughen up because it’s not a nice word, rap lingo or notĀ

Ā

I don't either one is innocent. Don't get me wrong. But taylor said in the phone call something along the lines of "as long as you're not calling me stupid or a b****" she seemed to be okay with lyrics then. Kanye agreed and I think that is where Taylor's outrage stemmed from. I think it didn't really matter that he said anything else about her in the song but when he made a big deal on the phone about making sure he had her permission and then adding in a lyric she said word for word she didn't want to be called, she went into full retaliation mode.Ā
