Let me say this. Joanne when it first came out, I was crazy about it. I bought the CD even though I had no CD player :selena:, I did listen to the leak cause I was at a swimming competition the day it was released. I even downloaded the amazon Alexa leak :rip:. It was my first era I experienced as a full stan, and it was the first I experienced on Gaga Daily. It was incredible and every single song meant something to me.

It was released in 2016 and since, I have been able to reflect on what it was and its place within the GagaSphere. I absolutely understand the necessity to have an album like Joanne... and if it didn't come in 2016, it would have came eventually. Being 'Lady Gaga' and having so much pressure and expectations on you to be 'edgy', 'daring' and 'weird/crazy' 24/7 while managing full body pain (not as well as she can now) must have not only been tiring physically, but mentally too. To put out a meaningful record, a healing record, a record that brings people together was EXACTLY the type of album that needed to happen. It was certainly a turning point in her career. All artists go through changes and evolutions, and experience things in different lights... and its a good example of that.

But interms of the actual album itself, listening to it in 2019/20... I have some things to say. I don't like it as much as I did a few years ago. And thats me being honest. Something feels missing. Every single song except from Perfect Illusion, Hey Girl and Come To Mama feels like a demo or unfinished. The stripped down era didn't need to mean tracks that sound unfinished. You can actually HEAR her vocals sound hurt or in pain... maybe emotionally but it sounds like smoking damage. Its very noticeable on tracks like Angel Down and Million Reasons. Quite hoarse. Then the actual instrumentation just feels lackluster. Dancin' In Circles could have gone MUCH harder, same with John Wayne. Joanne sounds really bad on the album... it sounds like Gaga didn't put that much into it because she though she would retake the vocals. Compared to the piano version that she released as a single? The album version just isn't it.

The thing I enjoy most about the Joanne era is watching the tour or live performances on YouTube from the JWT. Arguably her best tour yet. Her vocals got so much better as a result of not smoking and taking better care/practicing with a coach more often. Girl was sustaining G5s like it was nothing! She was singing higher and higher, her lower notes were much more rich and her tone got much clearer. She was using a clear head voice which we hadn't seen before! Million Reasons live >>> Million Reasons album version... and for me, it was like that for 75% of that album.

The only songs I listen to now from that album are Diamond Heart, John Wayne, Dancin' In Circles, Perfect Illusion and Come To Mama. I hate to say it  but the album does get boring :selena:

Its clearly not her best work, but I absolutely appreciate it for what it is and how it played apart in Gaga's life.

@xoxo Craig I really love your analysis and I kinda have the same opinion about it, however, ASIB is also stripped down and I feel that people love ASIB more as a stripped down album than Joanne. It was just the lack of electropop in 7 years that made us crazy.

We need DarkGa with Bops so we can rule the industry again and learn the other popgirls how to snatch 'em wigs to ultimate baldness!!

Well A Star Is Born is not really a 'Lady Gaga' album. It was an album suited and made for the characters that Gaga and Bradley played in the movie. So for me, I don't include it in Gaga's album list. Its on its own in her discography. Even then, she still gave us pop bops like Heal Me, WDYDT and Hair, Body, Face.

And we also had The Cure which is Gaga's song to tide us over... but you're right! We were all dying for pop music from Gaga for a long time, but at least she is serving this year with Chromatica  :bradley:

@xoxo Craig wait yes, 100% agree with comments about JW and DIC, hearing them the first time (especially their final choruses) I was surprised there wasn’t a bigger bang, a harder hit or something, I get what you mean by saying they sound like demos

When I first heard them, I didn't mind that... but listening again now just feels like there is something missing. The production could have gone much harder, like maybe added a new synth  or just something to both that would spice it up a bit :selena:   but yeah, that full album sounds like its unfinished and full of demos (except from a few tracks) to me

I am a MAJOR Joanne stan. I adore all of Gaga’s music but this album is easily my favorite, and one of my favorite albums from any artist. I agree with the argument that this album isn’t any more personal than her others since she’s always vulnerable and open on her albums, however, Joanne was different. I’ve said it on here before, but I feel like Joanne was an album Gaga has had inside her since she was 19, just waiting for the right moment to present itself and be written. The Joanne era will always have a soft spot in my heart.

Xoxo, Joanne

Yes! The whole album flows so well, if I put on one song I can't help but keep listening to the rest.

Sinners prayer is probably my favourite track, I love her low vocals and how she talks about just ending her relationship in the first verse and then talks about her younger self (the baby sister) and her view on relationships. It's very cool, layed back and determined and I really love that confident vibe from her.

I also saw the Joanne tour 4 times.

According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch

Sorry for my late reaction sis xD

Well, first I thought Joanne was necessary for her career-save, but I don't think the GP even remembers Joanne. If she did ASIB earlier in her career it'd function as her stripped down album and Joanne could be neglected. The function of Joanne being "the" stripped down Gaga album has failed, because when the GP thinks about stripped Gaga, they think about Shallow, ARUTW and INLA, not Joanne. So it just feels empty and unnecessary for me, because ASIB is wayyy better and has some cute bops at the very least like you said.

We need DarkGa with Bops so we can rule the industry again and learn the other popgirls how to snatch 'em wigs to ultimate baldness!!
