Jake 0
Justin's comeback is still impressive to me. To release a song as bad and left field as Suit and Tie and still create a moderate hit out of it is a testament to his longevity. Imagine if the song had been halfway decent. heavymlover 340
Justin's break was way too long. Her fanbase grew up and developed a different music taste, so it's natural that he's not having all the support that he used to have. Plus, S&T wasn't strong enough for being a really hyped comeback lead single. You can't just leave for 5/6 years and then come back and expect everyone to remember you. Mills 446
I'd wait for the opening week sales of Justin Timberlake's third album. Mirrors sound unexpectedly good, even arguably better than his lead single. And with a reported stadium tour to promote his comeback album along with the talks of a Beyonce collaboration on Bey's own 2013 release, I'd think he'd do just fine this year. And what I really appreciate about him is his efforts in delivering great videos that even his lyric video for S&T is worthy to watch over and over again. It's good to have him back. I actually haven't seen the Suit & Tie video until now. It's pretty good. He looks great too :flutter:
Ozzy8923 9
But dance music wasn't even popular when Britney released Womanizer. Rappers were still scoring #1's at that time. It became popular in early 2009 when Gaga came around and Womanizer had finished most of its chart run. Justin should of been able to do better than he's doing now. Considering her break was 4 years long and she was literally irrelevant aside from media headlines. Justin had films to fall back on when he was in his break. Jean was stuck with K-Fed and 2 children. :rip:

Mills 446
So, the newly released single of One Direction cannot even stop the tug of war between HS and TS. And as days come by, HS is furthering its sales over TS. It does not even have an official music video. :reno:

Slay?
craig 680
TS = Thrift Shop and it has two versions, combined its still ahead of Harlem Shake. in US, UK, and Canada.

And yes, HS's success comes solely to the viral videos on the internet. It somehow reminds me back when Call Me Maybe did not even have an official music video. ThisGuyTony 30,699
Speaking of "Call Me Maybe", didn't Carly release a new single today? I thought I read a post about it a couple of weeks ago...
Mills 446
Speaking of "Call Me Maybe", didn't Carly release a new single today? I thought I read a post about it a couple of weeks ago... I think it's Tonight I'm Getting Over You, which is really a good song, at least for me. It sounds better than This Kiss. Hopefully, she'd get a top ten hit on this one. I honestly thought that Kiss would become Interscope's own Teenage Dream after the huge success of Call Me Maybe, but it seems it did not happen. Quite a letdown for Billboard's 2012 Rising Star recipient.

I'm not sure I agree with your point about the break. Everyone still knew JT thanks to his film career, and new material has been highly anticipated for a long time. If he'd "waited too long" people wouldn't have jumped at the chance to buy his single when it first came out. I think it's more due to the fact that Suit & Tie is not commercial. It's not built for radio, and it's not SexyBack 2.0. It's a great song though imo.
Harry 26,836
Justin's comeback has barely started yet. Before we draw comparison to Miss. Spears, let's not forget that people care about Justin Timberlake outside of America. Suit and Tie isn't a typical pop song, of course it was never gonna smash but it's still a hit. I'd get into the musical detail of why it isn't comparable with Womanizer but I wouldn't want to bore you.
