In my business class today, my professor (who used to be a manager in the music industry) was saying how Billboard etc. are all in bed with labels so people shouldn't pay attention to them lol.

 

She specifically was talking about the shift to streaming on the Hot 100, and she was like. "So, does anyone seriously believe Billboard just isn't sleeping in the same bed with Spotify and other new streaming services, like the one Twitter and other networks want to launch? None of it is authentic."

That's why the digital sales chart is the only reliable one. My friend worked in the radio industry for 10 years and he told me there was so much payola going on it was crazy. When my gut tells me something is fishy about a song's success, I listen to it.
