Part of the problem this year is that the show has new episodes on Thursdays instead of Tuesdays while the songs are still released on Mondays. I won't get into the other reasons, though, because that would lead to things I would probably be banned for.

No he hasn't

Britney obviously has the bigger fan base because she's had a longer and more prolific career so I'm confused as to why you're acting like it's a surprise, but JT's era hasn't even begun and most of what you're saying is based on assumptions.

I just don't see WHY you're comparing them and going out of your way to shade Justin? The only reasons I can see is that they used to go out and they emerged at the same time. You just seem to be looking for an argument, what's the point lol

I don't see why JT needs to "sashay away" because there are other successful male artists about. Let's not pretend Britney is the top female around at the moment. There's room for everyone.

Well, I'm comparing them because it's fun since they used to date and then he capitalized on his relationship to launch a solo career that, by the time his second album was released, was on a better path than Britney's. But, quite frankly, if I wanted to really shade him I could compare him to the likes of Maroon 5, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, and Taylor Swift who are TRULY dominating right now.

And, also, the comparison arises because this was supposed to be THE comeback of 2013. Sure there was Gaga, Beyonce, Avril, and Katy releasing this year but this was arguably the most anticipated one. He had the GP on his side (he has more recurrent airplay on radio than all of Britney's songs combined), the benefit of a strong media presence due to his films and recent wedding, and having been preceded by a huge era so it just plain baffles me that the reception to his song has been so lackluster to the point where it's overshadowed by Britney Spears' under performing lead single from her seventh album.

And what bothers me more than anything is the fact that he waited SIX YEARS to release something and came back with something so meh. The song is cute, yes, but that's as far as my love for it (and the GP's clearly) goes. He reminds me of Nelly Furtado. Both dominating the music scene with their previous albums in 2006/2007 and waiting 5-6 years to follow those eras up. The similarity is the fact that both of them clung to the sound that made them so very successful half a decade ago, whereas, other artists can adapt to what's modern now and not have music sounding outdated and stale.

For God's sake Mirrors (aside from, according to some fans, being a leftover from FS/LS) has BEAT BOXING in 2013. :duck: You seriously can not get more outdated than that. Not to mention the fact that it's a leftover track. I mean, you had 6 years Justin the least you could of done was use a NEW song. Not one that was left over from your latest album.

/rant. LOOK AT ALL I HAD TO WRITE. :lmao:

EDIT: OMG, Harry you changed your avi. I think this is the first time I've ever seen you without the Kurt Cobain one! :emma:

Oh goodness

Well I'm not bothered enough to respond with an essay like that but I think it's clear that Justin and Britney's priorities as far as music goes are very different. He makes music because he wants to, not to get hits. And there's nothing wrong with that. Suit and Tie to me doesn't sound like someone trying to fit the mould and it doesn't sound like someone "clinging to the sound that made them so very successful" at all... Mirrors, yes that definitely sounds like FS/LS but I like it. It's not a "fact" that it's a leftover at all, and I don't think it is because the lyrics clearly allude to his relationship with Jessica Biel which began much after that album was released.

He evidently knows he's past his commercial peak releasing a song like S&T and I don't think he cares either

:smh: It just came out of me. I didn't realize my post was that long until I finished writing it.

But I understand your point of view. I mean, he doesn't need to fit the mold of what's popular now or get a huge smash. But I really think that's what he needed. I felt like he needed another album around 2-4 years after FS/LS because he had the potential to become the true King of Pop of the decade (since Usher was a likely candidate but under performed terribly with the album succeeding Confessions). It's just really a shame and I feel like he sabotaged himself by doing films and ignoring what was a more lucrative, more interesting, and generally more important than a mediocre film career and, as someone who loves to see artist's succeed, I feel justified (:awesome:) in holding this again him (:awesome:).

Lmao I know the feeling

I agree partly with what you're saying, I wish he never abandoned music for film but he said working on music so constantly would compromise the quality so I guess we aren't to question his choices. As a fan I'm happy with his moves so far this era. A little surprised upon first hearing S&T and I completely understand why casuals aren't massively into it but it will still be a decent hit for him at least. Still doing alright on radio anyway.

He will always be our generation's King of Pop to me

I love Carly's cover art. She looks like a badass avril lavigne there :flutter:

I love the single cover of Carly Rae Jepsen's Tonight I'm Getting Over You. She looks really good on it. Now, it'd be even better if she will promote it. At least a top 20 hit will be fine for her.

Indeed. How did her single-choice songs became so bland lately. The chord in her verses are so generic, monotonous and predictable.

I'm seriously hoping for a backlash from the public about this topic of her. It could probably snapped her out of it.

This. I'm sooo hoping for public backlash with 22.

Same here. It has become my favourite single from her since Just Like A Pill. And it still has yet to enter the HOT 100 chart. Really hoping it would be fully promoted. It deserves to be a top 10 hit, if not a HOT 100 chart-topper.

But how many ballads can the public take? That's the only thing I'm worried about. But I agree, it's a fantastic song. It's starting to rise again on iTunes, while Try is starting to fall, finally. Should be up near the top soon enough. But she really needs to perform it somewhere!

There's a certain ballad doing well in the UK that will probably smash when/if released here in the US :teehee:
