Mills 446
Radio has expanded far beyond my understanding. It's influence on what is popular hasn't. I'm baffled that there are so many songs now passing 200M in airplay, or getting close to that amount, when in 2011, the highest a song got was perhaps 150M-160M AI. With 100M-105M AI you could crack the Top 5-6 on Radio Songs and now it barely gets you into the Top 10. It's definitely having to do something with labels, because the more radio there is, the more labels can control what gets played. I remember when TEOG had around 64M AI (from Pop, not as a whole) and it got to #3 on Pop Songs but now if you have around 63M AI from Pop you barely make the Top 10 (S&S is at #10 on Pop and has around 63M AI from that format). The first song I remember to cross 100M AI from Pop alone was Stronger by Kelly Clarkson and since then almost every #1 on Pop Songs has been able to cross 100M on that format. And spins are increasing HEAVILY. I remember Gaga once broke the record for highest spins back in like 2009 and she got like maybe 10,000 spins and now every song in the Top 5 on Pop has 14,000-15,000 spins. Agreed. It seems every year, a new song is expected to break the most weekly plays, thanks to the expansion of the panel of radio stations. Back in 2011, Katy Perry broke her own record with LFN, but it was only a matter of time before Rihanna's WFL would break that record. And then here comes Carly Rae Jepsen's CMB, followed by Maroon 5's One More Night. And before 2012 would end, Ke$ha's Die Young took the record as though it's some hot potato. I would not be surprised if someday in the near future, a song would be able to have more than 15,000 weekly plays.

Every new song that comes along tops the previous one in terms of airplay. I'm just SO shocked that radio now plays such a little role in a songs popularity but has managed to expand the way it has so rapidly since 2009. pie-kun 1,765
All that payola isn't doing Justin any good on iTunes, he's down to 8 now and he's only ~.0.400 away from being out of the top 10 completely. He better start the promo.

_Lam 597
Even with the promo, nobody is there for that song. It started high because of the curiosity of his old fanbase and the hype surrounding his comeback. That's it IMO. The song is just bad IMO.

Look how much has changed in like the past year. It's really different. I don't understand why digital sales don't count for more in the Hot 100. Kind of pisses me off. Mills 446
Britney Spears got the last laugh after all with Justin Timberlake, after all these years. Months-old S&S outselling weeks-old S&T isn't what I exactly expected when JT released his comeback single. :dies:

Months-old S&S outselling weeks-old S&T isn't what I exactly expected when JT released his comeback single. And HIAM still sold more first week even though Britney had the same banner and no radio deal and not nearly as much hype. Actually, S&T's current AI is about 20 million AI more than what HIAM got in it's entire run on radio. And they were released literally at the same time of the year so saying that digital sales are weaker in January is BS because Jean still scored that 411K. :nails:

Come on, this is a Will.i.am song and she probably recorded her one and only line sitting in her car with her iPhone microphone for than being completely remixed to make it sound like it's the old Britney and than repeated 150 times on the song. Britney does not deserve a single credit for that **** ass song. As much as I hate Will.i.am crappy production, he at least PRODUCED his song, as bas as it may get. Americano 31,061
S&S wouldnt even be charting in the US without Britney. Her name carries it, along with the fact the video wouldnt have premiered on X Factor if she werent on the show.

She also sings the chorus of the song. It's technically a duet. :nails:
