MANiCURE1295 8,673
Good point! Not to mention that In The Zone is considered the album that solidified Britney Spears as a full blown adult megastar. She was taken more seriously and I believe In The Zone remains the peak of her artistic creativity. The fourth album for an artist is make or break. Crucial step in the progress of their career. Britney Spears - In The Zone. Christina Aguilera - Bionic. Beyonce Knowles - 4. Madonna - Like A Prayer. Rihanna - Rated R. Britney and Madonna both experienced a surge in creative control of their albums and musical growth and still experienced respectable commercial success. Beyonce and Christina were more unfortunate in their musical pursuits and ended up bombing on the Hot 100 and not experiencing even half of the commercial success they saw with their prior releases. Rihanna also experienced the same thing and managed lackluster sales that were also less than half of her prior release and a moderate hit (Yes, it was #1 on the Hot 100 but sales were not out of the ordinary and it did not perform as well WW as any of the singles from Good Girl Gone Bad). I believe Gaga will be joining Madonna and Ms. Spears. But Rated R is Rihanna's best album voted by Critics. That must mean something right?
Ozzy8923 9
But Rated R is Rihanna's best album voted by Critics. That must mean something right? Yes, but commercially the album failed to match its predecessor. The same could be said for 4. Both albums remain the most critically favored album by both artists but failed to achieve even a margin of the success previously experienced. Britney and Madonna had BOTH the positive reviews and the overall commercial success so that's why they are grouped separately from Beyonce, Rihanna, and Christina. Gaga will most likely soon join Madonna and Britney in being able to achieve both the critical success and considerable commercial success with her fourth record. craig 680
I'd start the clock on Beyonce stardom in 1999, when DC hit it big. Her solo career is a continutation of DC.

Rated R didn't fail, it reflect Rihanna power as a single artist and the capacity selling albums (that is not much) in her next eras. At least a one sucessful single ww, and her albums will sell 3M ww a couple years more. I know that Gaga will do a amazing during ARTPOP :)
Americano 31,061
No one scan focus on the entire world at once and have the perfect strategy for everywhere. BTW era went after America and Asia hard at the expense of smaller Euro markets People will always bee whining about "we need more promo" or "she's overexposed, people are tired of her tricks." It's like that on Kylie forms too about Kylie. It doesn't need to be perfect, but in most of the world she hasn't had a hit in a year and a half. I'm excited to see how that works out for her grand blackout plan, which is misguided and silly anyway. People don't "miss" pop singers, especially in the digital age. there's always a way to access new music. People simply stop caring about you, and the longer a break drags out, the more people that fall into that category. That's why she's turning into a cult act more than a pop star, like you said. Funny, you were worried about over-exposure in 2011 and were celebrating the end of BTW era earlier than Gaga planned. You also thought Taylor and Bieber were fading just because they didn't crank out product like Rihanna does. Cutting places in Asia, South America. or Africa out of the tour in order to rush the next era, is not the best way to be big in those places. 3 years between albums = too long 2 years = okay, pretty typical

I mean the part that you pair her with Beyonce and Christina, RR did a better job that 4 and didn't affect in bad way her career. But i agree with everything you said

Deacon 5
You people are gonna worry your asses off when the ARTPOP era actually begins so why not take this time to just enjoy the break? lol
Dangerous Man 9,245
If only Ke$ha can earn more respect, she'll not suffer this low debut of her latest album. I mean look at Gaga, even if she's releasing pop/dance song with some auto-tune on it, still, many people respect her because of her vocal ability and breakthrough live performances. I know Kesha has also a good vocal ability (though not the same level as Gagz) and talent. She just need to show it more to people. "A little less conversation and a little more touch my body."
