ryebread251 0
Red was released just about two years after Speak Now was, correct? That has seemed to work out for Taylor, so there is hope for Gaga if she plays her cards right with her promotion and lead single choice.
Americano 31,061
I truly believe that if the album is given a fair amount of promo then she'll debut with 600-700 I dont think she has enough star power to have that kind of debut anymore, but it depends on the lead single as well. I think she defintiely has the star power. 600,000 plus. Calling it now. The lead single will help out it's sales. And interscope knows how important this album is. They'll promote it and give it a could chance to debut with high numbers. I dont think she has enough star power to have that kind of debut anymore, but it depends on the lead single as well. Taylor had other projects in between though. She had a few movie soundtrack singles etc And Gaga has had a sold out tour WORLDWIDE and a high profile fragrance launch. Ozzy8923 9
I have to disagree with the fact that Gaga's star power is fading. She just had her song performed on the X-Factor and last week on The Voice (Marry the Night ). She still can rack up some media controversy when the chance arrives and her fan base will re-unite when the lead single arrives (ie. the bandwagon fans will come crawling back, the uninterested fans will become interested, and she might just get some new fans too). Not to mention a HUGE fragrance launch.

That's just degrading hahaha Edit: Hey guys don't forget to vote for Lady Gaga as "Most anticipated album of 2013" in the Billboard 2012 year end in review. craig 680
Seeing as Gaga is skipping the Grammy's, I doubt the single is out any time soon. She'll pull a Ke$ha, disappear for too long and then debut with lackluster numbers. It's sort of obvious that debuting a new song at the Grammies wasn't happening. * She's not nommed for any major awards * It's kind of "been there, done that" after BTW promo strategy. * Taylor rules when she puts out new ,music against no competition. Gaga can too with ehr fanbase. Major awards shows create the risk that someone like Cee Lo Green or Adele or PSY will steal your thunder. Kesha showed she wasn't an album seller back when she released Cannibal. She also didn't tour America just before her recent album release.

But what is going to happen in countries like Australia and Germany now? The tour AND last era will have been long-gone before she drops any new material. Not a good strategy IMO

BTW era went after America and Asia hard at the expense of smaller Euro markets People will always bee whining about "we need more promo" or "she's overexposed, people are tired of her tricks." It's like that on Kylie forms too about Kylie.
Deacon 5
I expect more along the lines of 300K-500K depending on the lead single performance and overall hype. Maximum 600K. However, I can't say that I'm sad that she's delayed the record beyond my expectations. I didn't want Gaga and Beyonce to coincide with releases early this year. I already had a bad enough stan war with Britney vs. Gaga early last year. The things I called Britney. Katy and Britney will probably end up releasing late 2013. Britney is questionable. Katy already confirmed for next year. I'm hoping for May- June 2013 to mark the 2 year anniversary of Born This Way. Speaking of the two year anniversary of Born This Way, I'm glad she took two years to make ARTPOP. I don't like rushed work and I felt like Born This Way was a bit rushed because Interscope needed a follow up to The Fame and The Fame Monster to solidify Gaga's place in the pop world since she was still arguably a new artist in 2011 (she had only been out for 2 years). Now, she's a more established act and I think she can withstand a two year break and come back strong. I mean, Britney had a 2 year break between Circus and Femme Fatale and she was fine, same with Katy and her first 2 records. Britney also had a two-year break between Britney and In The Zone (her 3rd and 4th album) where she was constantly referred to as "fading" because the Britney singles had made little impact on Billboard, the album had sold much less than Oops!, and she was surrounded by many negative headlines and news stories. Britney came back with a shocking performance at the 2003 VMAs, an under-performing first single, a 600K debut, and then Toxic. It's interesting to see some of the similarities between Britney and Gaga (referring to the Britney era).
craig 680
Rather than "fading" the danger is Gaga will evolve from a pop queen into someone with just a strong cult fanbase. Monsters will be there to support single #1 and give her amazing first weeks numbers. I'm more worried about itunes buyers supporting her 3rd and 4th single. Gaga's fanbase now transcends pop too. And the teenage crowd. I also thing first week debuts will gradually became a bigger percentage of total album sales, as in Japan. That comes with digitalization. Not to mention that In The Zone is considered the album that solidified Britney Spears as a full blown adult megastar. She was taken more seriously and I believe In The Zone remains the peak of her artistic creativity. The fourth album for an artist is make or break. Crucial step in the progress of their career. Britney Spears - In The Zone. Christina Aguilera - Bionic. Beyonce Knowles - 4. Madonna - Like A Prayer. Rihanna - Rated R. Britney and Madonna both experienced a surge in creative control of their albums and musical growth and still experienced respectable commercial success. Beyonce and Christina were more unfortunate in their musical pursuits and ended up bombing on the Hot 100 and not experiencing even half of the commercial success they saw with their prior releases. Rihanna also experienced the same thing and managed lackluster sales that were also less than half of her prior release and a moderate hit (Yes, it was #1 on the Hot 100 but sales were not out of the ordinary and it did not perform as well WW as any of the singles from Good Girl Gone Bad). I believe Gaga will be joining Madonna and Ms. Spears.
