Arturo 40,746
I understand your point clearly. EDM is not a mainstream genre but I think if Gaga were to pursue it would sell (and hence get played on radio). I know Gaga's fans are here for EDM. Besides, the GP is fickle. They don't set themselves with one genre. How was it possible for us to progress from Hip-Hop, Ballads, and R&B to DANCE-POP in less than a year? From Timbaland and Ryan Tedder to RedOne and David Guetta. The GP will buy anything from Gaga as long as they think it's catchy. A song like Marry the Night isn't catchy when you first hear it. That goes for a lot of other tracks on BTW. I know that if Gaga puts out even the most EDM-influenced song with a strong hook in the chorus, it will sell. That's all the public wants. Ozzy8923 9
IF Gaga were to pursue EDM, I can see it having a similar situation as Hung Up did back in 2005. Sold very well (#1 on Digital Songs and sold 1.2 million copies in 2005, it was rare at the time to achieve those sales, Gwen Stefani reached Platinum that year with Hollaback Girl and was the first person to do so), but did not have radio support. Since digital sales did not count at the time on the Hot 100, it peaked at #7. Not bad for having barely any airplay. However, it did AMAZING in the rest of the world (#1 in over 40 countries, the only song to do so) and sold 9 million WW. There are 3 major differences from what can happen with Gaga: (1) She's not 22 years into her career like Madonna was in 2005. (2) Radio still plays Gaga constantly. Unlike Madonna who was coming back from an era that ended her constant radio airplay in the United States (American Life). (3) Digital sales COUNT on the Hot 100 now. Had they counted back in 2005, Hung Up probably would of gone Top 5. The GP will buy anything from Gaga as long as they think it's catchy. They're not as picky and demanding or critical as we make them out to be. Besides, do you guys forget that YOU are part of the GP and are open to EDM on radio. What makes you think others aren't? Perhaps I'm reaching, but I think Gaga will truly start yet another trend on radio, and make EDM the norm on Pop Radio. I think we're due for another shift in 2013 :nacho: Plus, this Dance-Pop to EDM shift won't be as hard to achieve as the R&B/Urban to Dance-Pop shift :P

Yeah, but Hung Up was also released smack-dab in the middle of a rap/hip-hop/urban takeover in the US and unfortunately radio isn't flexible for artists who are over 40. Dance music is already very popular for today's audience so it wouldn't be as much of a stretch for Gaga to push it a step further.

Dance music is already very popular for today's audience so it wouldn't be as much of a stretch for Gaga to push it a step further. Which further justifies the fact that Gaga CAN release a heavily-EDM-influenced track and still find commercial success (with the correct song, of course; good lyrics, commercial theme, great hook/chorus).
