HeavyCapiLover 3,675
We know gaga has always had this kind of fascination with fame and what it does to people and society. In The Fame, it was literally an essay about it that she turned into an artistic concept. She talks about how she feels with being famous in a lot of songs and this evolves with her career and her personnal life. 2008 : "do you want love or do you want fame" = probably a metaphore where love means something like "art" and live for the passion of music and nothing more, but she also wants to ba famous and sell herself to the industry so she can be seen and feel powerful. "I'm your biggest fan I'll follow you until you love me, papa-paparazzi" = she's talking to paparazzi and not an actual person. She wants to become aa star, she wants those people to see her. 2009 : "want your bad romance" = once she has become a star, she wants to be fully part of this industry and she's aware that it might bring her some troubles, that it's not an easy life, but she really wants it. She wants to be remember, to be something big that has an impact, so she has to get the best and the worst of the world of fame. 2011 : "I'm in love with judas" = maybe the meaning of this song is way more than just falling in love with the wrong person and forgiveness. She's in love with her fame, she's addicted to it (remeber that she used to show up with a different crazy outfit every 10 hours, was on every talkshows, everywhere). But she knows that it's going to cause her problemes very soon. There is a lot of pressure from the industry, she works all the time, she's getting more and more hate... she's tasting to the ugly side of fame but she can't help but love it. 2013 : "I try to sell myself but I am really laughing cause I just love the music not the bling" = she gets the pressure from her label to do the rights things to stay relevant in the chart, but she's tired. She just wants to take a break from all these troubles that fame brought to her. So she decides to focus on her own music and saying a big F you to the music industry by doing ARTPOP. And then she chooses the "love" lyric of lovegame by doing a jazz album. 2016 : "it wasn't love it was a perfect illusion" = after all she's been throught she realises that all this "bling" wasn't really making her happy. She got lost in this fame storm and all her work, the pressure, etc, was avoiding her to focus on her personnal life. She's tired of people taking picture of her everywhere, she realises that having a normal life and doing what she wants far from cameras can make her happy. 2020 : "I want your stupid love" = after 6 years when she learnt about herself, her talent, her health, she has become a strong and mature woman. Quiting this commercial industry helped her and ASIB made her discover a new passion and a new talent, and that brought her at the fame again but this time a "soft fame". She did not have all the pressure from before. And after all of that, she just wants to have fun and do some commercial things, enjoying life with everyone. "Stupid" here means that she wants that fame by doing some simple things that could easily in the industry. Something that would put her on top, but not with the dark sides. Just a fun time. derpmonster 22,412
Yep. I've always thought most of her love songs can be interpreted to be about fame. Check out iTunes data & graphs at CHARTPOP.live
Quartz 12,555
I think Shallow was her last song about fame. She essentially stripped her desire for fame in exchange for impact. I think Stupid Love has a more relatable message. We all just want to be loved. It's much more deeper contextually. Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊
Gagz 2,579
Obviously she has a lot of songs and imagery involving fame, but I don’t really think Stupid Love fits into that category.
