I work in digital marketing/advertising so I get the value of digital channels, but a fully integrated omnichannel strategy is ALWAYS the best approach for brands who can afford it when they are releasing a new product, re-branding, etc. Lady Gaga's reintroduction into mainstream pop with a new single that has a complex storyline behind it, the album it belongs to which launched presale, and the tour for it that is being promo'd, definitely falls under 'major launch of a new product, rebrand, or other important venture.' Charlotte Awbery is going to be releasing commercial music after a live performance in a SUBWAY. Demi Lovato sold 11k units of an awful ballad in 4 days because it had a clear message and live performance. Gaga released a lead single, album presale, and first tour in what feels like ages. Compare the in-person promo and performances we got for any past album, lead single, and tour announcement from prior eras to this. I am SO SO excited and proud of this single and music video and the digital promo she DID do. I am so happy she WILL have a hit song on the charts, on the radio, in my life! But, *one* major talk-show appearance with a few paparazzi shots that created a defined aesthetic, with radio interviews that created a defined storyline, with *one* performance of it on the piano that created a defined sound, with *one* confirmation of her collaborators to get them hyped and to start streaming. ...please don't tell me that the 5 second intro to the MV, that every YouTuber struggled to read, was enough for us and the GP to understand what Chromatica is (a physical planet? state of mind?), how the album will relate to it (colors=genres?), what the tribes' purposes are, who her collaborators will be, what the tour wil symbolize. She has worked so hard and done so much right; but, everything just flew by us and it was honestly overwhelming. A simple appearance to streamline that hype would have been so great.
