The coronavirus is less deadly than the flu. Literally Lysol will kill it.

People really need to calm down. The media is causing unnecessary chaos.

That's not true  it's more infectious and tens of times deadlier. There is a definite cause for concern but not for panic.

The biggest concern is simply having it stick around and killing people with comprised immune systems or pre-existing respiratory problems (like asthma).

Your daily lives don't need to change, people just need to start doing what they already should have been doing :green: wash your hands often and thoroughly, cover your coughs and sneezes, don't touch your face, and if you're in a place where it's spreading, try to limit your exposure to crowds.

We have three cases now in Florida with something like 50 more being tested. I know if I caught it, I'd probably be fine. But if I passed it to a handful of people I see regularly (my best friends mom who's in chemo, my grandpa who already has pneumonia, a number of my neighbors, etc) that I could very well put their lives in danger.

Edit: although thinking about it, I've always been susceptible to high fevers so maybe I should be a tad bit more cautious too :emma:

I saw a report from the CDC issued late last week that says it’s far less deadlier than flu.

I also work at McDonald's and they said that corporate will not shut down if the Coronavirus hits my town. We are simply being told to wash our hands regularly and wipe down counters every 30 mins.

I’m on the other side of the state and the panic is spreading here too even though we don’t have any cases of it besides a few people who were transported from another hospital

Well, corona has infected about 93,000 people, so far 3,100 have died. That puts the mortality rate at about 3% (if I'm doing the math correctly :rip:)

The flu can have as many as a billion cases worldwide in any given year, the high end estimate of deaths is 600,000. Which is A LOT, but only 0.6% making corona at least five times as...efficient (?) at killing as the flu in its worst years.

And corona has an easier time spreading in the air than the flu does.

And there's no vaccine currently and there won't be a widely available one for at least a year.

And people have zero resistance against it because it's a new virus.

And we're not sure how effective anti-virals are on it.

It's worse than the flu :rip: Still not a cause for panic, of course, but don't be stupid and shake hands or share air space with people who are known to be infected :air:

Healthy people don't need to wear masks, especially since most masks people think they should wear are only 30% effective against airborne illnesses.

Just be sensible and you'll be fine.

A reassuring fact though is that out of 51,600 cases that aren't active (meaning treatment has ended for one reason or another), 48,500 (94%) have recovered, 3,100 (6%) have died.

So recovery is still highly likely, just less likely than the flu

What?!

40% of the world's population is expected to be affected.

56,000,000 dying isn't "dangerous"?! What are you on about?

WHO just raised the mortality rate to 3.4%

Im just saying the chances that you might die from caronavirus is 0.2% unless you are over 80 years old. So the majority of people should not panic and live in fear for years. Im honestly not scared if I get it, im just worried about being sick for 4 weeks. The effect it will have is more practical like the economy and daily life.

The death rate this year from flu-like illnesses and pneumonia is around 7% which is extremely high yet people arent panicking about that.

Im just trying to calm myself down lol :billie:

I mean sis death is not the only scary thing :air: i'm scared of being sick for so long too bc i have a low tolerance for pain and also the virus has long lasting/permanent effects on the lungs and respiratory system so thats really worrisome too. my boyfriend has breathing problems so the virus is very likely to kill him and id die

chaeri pls
