But you shouldn't also forget, that many stars use this to their advantage. I think even Gaga does it, when she is like "We did it little monsters!", which is cute and all, but what did we do actually? Make you account look better? :vegas:

We have this mentality everywhere, especially in Videogaming. The wars that have been fought between Playstation and Xbox... sometimes its funny, and sometimes it's a bit scary, how far some people would go to defend their favorite brand.

💯

I said a month ago while discussing another topic that LG has encouraged this co-dependent relationship from the beginning.

Well this isn't a new thing. Stan culture has always lived vicariously through their fave. It's a very unhealthy practice in my opinion. When your fave flops you flop? Stan culture as a whole is very extreme though so it's not very surprising. :emma:

We do not tho...I’m sorry I just don’t understand that mentality and I think for some it creates mental health issues.

See the GGD meltdowns for receipts.

I can’t speak on behalf of everyone else let alone the amount of meltdowns that take place; my wording was wrong in that aspect so I can only speak for myself.

Of course, and why wouldn't she? It's business strategy, and pretty normal. Everyone does, just look at Apple, they made a cult about their products (and i love their products), and some people will defend everything they do, no mater what.

I still think it's fine tho, as long as it's not weird and unhealthy.

I don’t disagree - I’m not trying to say fans don’t matter. If a pop star doesn’t have fans they are over.

So the “sport team/shares success mentality” isn’t right or wrong...it’s just not for me. That’s okay. I am not trying to hurt anyone’s feelings.

But you can not deny it leads to toxic behavior...starting with some fans believing they are entitled to things because they bought concert tickets, albums, merch, streamed all day, etc.

Oh yes it can def be toxic! I agree with that 100%..

This was a good talk people!!

What I have learned is that I should not take everything so seriously and/or learn to ignore better.

Like I said - I am so happy for LG. But emphasis on the FOR.

I cheer her on all the time, but it doesn’t change my life. That’s the only way I know how to be. But I’m not saying it’s the correct way.

It can be toxic if there’s a co-dependency taking place. If that’s the case, then it could be some people may need help. Not trying to be mean but we all know co-dependent relationships are always founded on toxicity.

@Ktaylor99 don’t read into it too much. The fanbase is overwhelmingly satisfied and love to see Gaga win in society.

I really feel you on that. Of course, everyone is free to decide the extent to which they'll invest themselves, that goes without saying. But, speaking from my own experience (and I think a lot of you can relate as well), when I first started stanning I was this bullied closeted kid in elementary school and having someone like Gaga to relate to, a kindred freak who was literally slaying the game and taking it by storm, meant the world to me. I started seeing her success as my own because irl so much sh!t had been thrown my way and, had it not been for her, I simply would've felt miserable. The tricky part is how I subconsciously kept that mindset even when I started doing way better — thus, the overly attached stan was born. That is something I had to work on, especially after the trainwreck that was the ARTPOP pre-era & era. (Don't get me wrong, I still love it to death, it's just... Well, if you were there, you know.)

For those stans, Joanne was the worst outcome of appealing to the GP aka music for the GP that the GP couldn't care less about.

Wasn't the 'we did it kids' tweet about gay marriage in NY? :billie: I thought stans said 'we did it kids' with a relative awareness we in fact did not do it lol. For example,  'we did it kids' in response to the billboard announcement really means 'we're on page 521 of the LG6 discussion thread' and I kind of love that.

I just remembered this :billie: let's pretend it was for something else :billie:

I think that's why she had to pull away from the fans because it did become codependent at one point, especially during the born this way era when she was taking fans backstage.

That’s a good point too - that I have briefly mentioned before. I have a lot of privilege - white, straight, was out of college and in the work force before the 2008 collapse...

So I didn’t NEED LG the way many of her original fans did.

Of course I have own issues and things - but not those that she spoke to specifically.

Was I bullied in elementary school? Yes. But it had been 20 years passed when LG reached out to those kids.

My connections to LG are entirely different - Italian, NY, dead aunt, etc.

My point is - I should be more open to the people who have this connect - but I still feel like it can end badly for some. But I certainly do not want it to.
