I’m very happy for Gaga but..

The phrase "we did it kids" irritates me the most. Because fans throw it around when Gaga has achieved something and the fanbase has done nothing but sit on our asses and complain.

She did it, kids.

IDK.. For me personally it’s all about fun. Every era I follow her charts success and it’s (IMO) the most interesting thing about release.. Waiting to see what she does next, waiting for people’s reactions, reviews, sales... Also people saying “we won” are just having fun too and I think for us it’s like “okay so I participated in this and I love that it’s paying off”.. I don’t think it’s unhealthy or anything.. it’s just a fun little thing that comes with new era.

I feel that a bit. I’m 30, which isn’t old at all, but sometimes I feel like I’m on the older end of the spectrum in this fan base which is slightly unsettling...:messga:

Well I’m glad it know I’m not alone in my feelings...even if I could have baby sat for you! 😂😂😂

Yeah but YOU are what I call normal so you don’t count 😛

But I get what you are saying - thats why I think I’m too old. Maybe I take what people say too seriously.

I'm 32. Stupid Love makes me feel like I'm 21 again.

none of us chose this life.

Gaga forced us to stan. We had no choice.

I honestly feel like fans are at least 40% of her promo. I mean look at them doing starbucks thing and soccer moms thing.. and even tho maybe it doesn’t work, people are talking about it, it’s being written about in news.. I feel like fans are also kinda responsible for the success and I think Gaga knows that and that’s why she used that phrase. “We did it” not “I did it”..

Saint Laurent

Her success is a shared success with her fans because a relationship between an artist and their fans is symbiotic. Neither could exist in the way that they do without the other.

So yeah, we won.

Addison Rae

I think it’s just for fun AND the fact that the majority of us are buying/streaming the song nonstop, it is kind of like a group effort to help Gaga’s song.

It’s much better than seeing the negative responses from other stans which are MUCH more toxic.

Because the way I see it, if she succeeds and wins then we all win and succeed. Winning and success come in many forms. It’s about the impact in the end

We do not tho...I’m sorry I just don’t understand that mentality and I think for some it creates mental health issues.

See the GGD meltdowns for receipts.

I get that and thanks for clarifying. But I do see it used at the wrong moments when fans have literally done nothing.

Unsurprisingly, I agree with you. I think people in this thread have explained the phenomenon pretty well. Pop girls are sports teams and the charts are league tables. We're all performing for each other. Expanding on that point, I think people don't like Joanne because the GP didn't love Joanne. Same with ARTPOP before the ARTPOP renaissance (when everyone could channel their hate into Joanne lol). Whereas her 'pop' stans 'like' Shallow and ASIB because the project was successful. You'd probably have a more negative reaction to SL if the GP didn't like it.

That’s interesting tho because if you ask GGD they hate Joanne because it was music for “soccer moms” who are the opitome of the GP.

*I am prepared to be dragged but I gotta vent*

So for me - I’m always happy for LG’s success.

Stupid Love has great reviews and is doing well in streaming.

But I don’t understand why her fans feel like THEY WON. Her success is not “ours” - it is not an extension of our own lives and we should not live vicariously through it.

It’s an unhealthy relationship and why “stan” culture sucks so bad.

I was lurking on Twitter today and all I see is

“we won”

“Your favorite could never”

etc etc etc...

I suppose there are a legit reasons to be concerned if Stupid Love did not do well, because we all want Lady Gaga to continue with music.

But I feel like the reactions I’m seeing are much more than that - again I say it all the time but perhaps I’m just too old to understand.

I’d like to hear your opinions on this because perhaps I’m missing something - but I don’t see that these reactions have any integrity whatsoever.

I think for me the feeling of "winning" is based on resonating, identifying with, and admiring a popular artist and so their success becomes your success in a roundabout way.

I've followed Gaga since the beginning and I got really defensive when people started dragging her after ARTPOP. So for me, when she does well on the charts or adds to her accolades, I feel I'm winning because someone I love is soaring :vegas:

This type of relationship could be unhealthy but for me it is positive because I look up to her so much and feel proud when she slays and succeeds.

I don’t disagree - I’m not trying to say fans don’t matter. If a pop star doesn’t have fans they are over.

So the “sport team/shares success mentality” isn’t right or wrong...it’s just not for me. That’s okay. I am not trying to hurt anyone’s feelings.

But you can not deny it leads to toxic behavior...starting with some fans believing they are entitled to things because they bought concert tickets, albums, merch, streamed all day, etc.
