Diamond heart99 5,262
*I am prepared to be dragged but I gotta vent* So for me - I’m always happy for LG’s success. Stupid Love has great reviews and is doing well in streaming. But I don’t understand why her fans feel like THEY WON. Her success is not “ours” - it is not an extension of our own lives and we should not live vicariously through it. It’s an unhealthy relationship and why “stan” culture sucks so bad. I was lurking on Twitter today and all I see is “we won” “Your favorite could never” etc etc etc... I suppose there are a legit reasons to be concerned if Stupid Love did not do well, because we all want Lady Gaga to continue with music. But I feel like the reactions I’m seeing are much more than that - again I say it all the time but perhaps I’m just too old to understand. I’d like to hear your opinions on this because perhaps I’m missing something - but I don’t see that these reactions have any integrity whatsoever. I’m blonde, I’m skinny, I’m rich and I’m a little bit of a bitch
Guest Adarsh
It’s really not that serious. We might not directly benefit from it but it’s a different kind of happiness to see your idol succeed. I was really tired at work yesterday but as soon as I got home and read the charts thread while streaming SL, it gave me unimaginable joy and I felt great and all my stress was gone. But I don’t have an issue with happiness at all. If you notice I said I’m happy it’s a success... But that is different from thinking its an extension of YOUR life...LG topping charts should not be a personality trait. Mythos 3,199
Some people identify with religion, others with conspiracy theories, others being vegan, others stanning for music artist. As long as it's "healthy" there is no harm in it, but i do wonder about some getting really worked up, either in hating, or defending to the bitter end, that's when i go
River 117,233
It's like when your football team is winning, you feel like you won too.. of course there are people who takes it to the extreme but it's a minority among the fans.. So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy
Modern Ecstasy2 2,202
Hmm. I hear what you’re saying. When I see comments such as “we won”, I am not interpreting those words as fans trying to take credit for work that isn’t ours, or discrediting Gaga’s work. I see it sort of like allyship I suppose? Like, someone we love and support is experiencing success, so we feel happy and excited for her. Something like that, I think. Slightly off topic, but I’m curious about your age? I’ve seen a few of your comments describing yourself as “old” so I’m just wondering “Delete this thread that person is not Gaga he is a hot blonde twink”

Yeah I’m a sports fan - but I also dislike that mentality so much. I think it’s extremely toxic and unhealthy. Same with patriotism (but that’s whole other issue) Perhaps that is where stans learned it from. PEZ 6,227
I'll take the phrase "it's not that serious" and turn it into "it shouldn't be that serious" -- it should hopefully never escalate beyond playful banter, but unfortunately yes there are people who take it extremely competitively. I can totally understand being happy to see your fave do well on the charts -- but it's not good to be seriously depressed or angry or upset if they don't do super-well. A little bit of a sting, okay maybe you're just empathetic in general, but don't tie your emotions SUPER closely to it. The "we" in "we won" does sound a bit strange when intended seriously and not as banter -- all I did was purchase a song, I didn't make it! I try not to use that type of phrasing in general, because I don't like feeding into the competitiveness / put-down nature so common between stan groups... TL;DR I get what you're saying OP, it's off-putting when serious ⚡🐲

I am going to be 40 this year - so not like terribly old, but in the world of “fan experience” I feel ancient! Mythos 3,199
But you shouldn't also forget, that many stars use this to their advantage. I think even Gaga does it, when she is like "We did it little monsters!", which is cute and all, but what did we do actually? Make you account look better? We have this mentality everywhere, especially in Videogaming. The wars that have been fought between Playstation and Xbox... sometimes its funny, and sometimes it's a bit scary, how far some people would go to defend their favorite brand. But the fans works a lot to make their fave reach success, if it's to buy the songs, stream all the day, watch the videos on repeat, promote them everywhere.. it's like a job, so when their fave is actually succeeding, they feel like their job paid off so it's their win too. There's always going to be the rotten part in the fruit, just cut it out and keep the good part.. there's always toxic behavior in every group and about every subject, so just learn to ignore it and focus on the good parts. For me personally, it's just makes me happy and proud to see her succeeding, like it makes me feel good and put a smile on my face.
