Shallow is a ballad, ballads can do  very good because they can be very mainstream and appeal to audiences from all ages  

 

Stupid Love wont appeal to old audiences, it is obvious. 

 

And remember shallow is such an amazing song but its success was helped by the controvery between Gaga and  Bradley. It helped a lot.
