While I agree that artists need to constantly evolve instead of relying solely on their legacies, I think it’s quite unfair and simply not true to say that Gaga is lazy and only doing rehash of herself. She literally is stepping into new directions for every era, and reinvention doesn’t have to be in the form of visuals. Sure, Joanne has some questionable visuals, but it’s nonetheless a conscious departure from her old self, and is far from “not trying“. As for Chromatica, the era literally has just started, and she may *seem* not invested enough because the pandemic has messed up the rollout. But still, it is evident that Gaga has envisioned some interesting concepts like the tribes. Maybe just to wait to see how well this vision is executed? Lastly, I strongly disagree that a collab with Ariana is boring just because she’s mainstream. I mean, David Bowie made Let’s Dance, which is arguably THE mainstream at its time, yet it’s still an exceptional album.
