Did you know that Ariana also broke the 24hour views record with TUN and occupied the top 3 spots on the hot 100 AND is the most streamed female artist? Not to mention My Everything was the most streamed album until Dua Lipa surpassed it? Blackpink has tons of fans, but the fans will support no matter what, while Ariana has tons of more mainstream appeal. Also, a lot of Blackpink’s views come from their fans spamming the video / the fact that they literally release 1 comeback a year as compared to other groups who do 3 a year. Their highest charting single in the US was really low. And I say this as a BLACKPINK fan, I literally saw them front row at Coachella. (Not to mention Ariana headlined while Blackpink played a smaller stage way earlier in the night) Overall it’s smart because even if Sour Candy isn’t released as a single BLACKPINK stans will still support the album. From a business standpoint, Pop radio will touch ROM and the YT views won’t mostly be from Asia. For the Hot 100, ROM is 100% the way to go.
