You guys what about Billie? I really think she a strong contender to be a pop great, let’s further discuss her because we don’t really discuss Billie on here

she might not be your cup of tea but denying she's a 2010s icon is just ...:rip:

she has been the female popstar everyone's been talking since 2015, yes she's not a great songwriter but still

also she has amazing videos like god Is a woman, focus, NTLTC and love me harder...

I would say Adele and Ariana Grande are the two big iconic artists after gaga in the 2010s

right but her last two albums were smash’s because they were riding on the clout of the negativity and controversy around ariana. like if manchester and mac miller passing about never happened. do you think she would be as elevated as she is? she has the taylor swift curse, in terms of what is she going to make when she is happy? how is she going to rise if there is no drama behind the music

For me, iconic means more than just wearing cute chic looks and performing good dances and singing.

Iconic means going above-and-beyond in terms of art, shifting the paradigm, changing the industry. Being something more than just pop.

None of the modern pop tarts yall listed did any of that, so I guess the OP is right, Gaga was the most recent "iconic" mainstream pop star!

But the word "iconic" is overused and kinda meaningless tbh

so true tho, she was the last of the whole beatle mania type craze, like people couldn’t stop following gaga’s every move, ever outfit change. and just hearing someone like gaga being so involved with their music, their artistry, their talent. it was refreshing to see a person actual craft their craft

Of course not. Taylor broke through along with Gaga in 2008, and I think Ariana and Billie are also iconic by now, as in they are widely recognized pop icons.

Dua is definitely headed down that road, whether she gets there or not depends on how well her future albums go.

Ari is objectively iconic whether or not anyone wants to admit it. She’s probably the most influential artist of the last 10 years. She changed the entire aesthetic of the second half of the 2010s in pop music. More so than even Taylor ever has. It’s hard for me to call her iconic because she’s still new-ish but she absolutely will get there. She already has the accolades so now it’ll just take some time. But even if she flopped tomorrow and never recovered, she would still be seen as a 2010s icon forever.

I consider billie pop because she’s mainstream. I think she has potential as well but it takes at least a decade for me to see anyone as “iconic”.

Yes, who else has taken over the world like she has ? gained millions of fans, won countless awards, world tours, had impact on fashion, pop culture etc. 2008 was when Gaga first came out. i don't see anybody really doing that now.

but from the music that ariana made she also was riding on the drama that made those albums, so it begs the question is the music or was the drama the driving factor? like without manchester and mac miller do you think ariana would be such a standout as she is now

Yes I do. I just don’t think those things have had that much of an impact on her career but maybe I’m wrong. She fits exactly what the new generation wants out of a pop star, so I think she would be basically right where she is now even if those things didn’t happen.

And her voice sets her apart from everyone. Right now we look back at Whitney, Mariah, and Celine as (arguably) the vocal trinity and I think Ari (and Gaga) will be looked at in a very similar way eventually

right but what would she write about then? if mac never passer we wouldn’t have thank u next because she would have been engaged to pete and the manchester thing wrote us no tears left to cry, so if that never happened she wouldn’t have been so introspective.
