Billie Eilish thinks a lot of hip-hop right now is lying about guns & women

I’m just saying, she doesn’t see that as her trying to be edgy. She’s expressing her art in a way she feels she wants to and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. The people trying to be edgy are a lot of her fans imo.
This is just my observation of it though, so fair you see it how you do.

I agree with you that she put her foot in her mouth about this, but these are complaints that I’ve seen spread throughout the entirety of this website. As a white girl though, she really shouldn’t of spoken on it. It honestly came off as a casual conversation that the journalist included (because the journalist has every right to do just that) and it’s coming off more as a criticism of an art form than a casual annoyance she has with a genre she likes...idk of that makes sense or not, but do you get what I mean :selena:

I understand your perspective, however for me as someone who is neutral on her it's noticeable that criticising people that try to portray themselves like somebody they're not while doing it herself is weird and lowkey hypocritical. Her art is dark and edgy while her as a person (according to what you and other people in this thread say) is a normal/ cheerful girl. It's clear that she choses this aesthetic to be cool so there's that disconnect between her true self and how she presents (the same way it happens with rappers).

You're confusing art and artist here. And on Gagadaily no less... We all know Gaga used to present herself as dark. Do you put her in a box? Then why would you put billie in a box? A female artist can be more than just one thing. Singing about depression doesn't mean you can't sing about anything else (ex. Xanny, a touching anti-substance abuse song). And besides, I still don't see how that correlates to her not having the right to make a statement about lyrics like owning guns and ****ing bitches.

And of course you had to bring Gaga in this.

The key difference is that Gaga never complained about artists being inauthentical or posers, so the comparison is in no way similar. She even admited using lies or exagerations in her art countless of times.

Billie goes for a dark aesthetic while being a Bieber fan. There is a disconect between her and the way she presents herself so calling people out for also having this disconnect is hypocritical.

I just don't understand the random statement... like some of folks said here, why isn't she saying the same thing about other genres? If she's talking about the objectification of women on music yes I agree but hip hop's not the only genre that has this issue.

I just think that black artists are already put on a bad spot enough to people come for them. Racism is real, people do it everyday in the smallest interactions. I feel like black artists have to work twice as hard to try to be viewed as an actual artist and a lot of times their art is not viewed as so, and actually made fun of, only for a couple of years after to appear on a white person's video with a different name and start to trend and "be cool".

So it must suck for them, really.

I believe she'll explain what she meant to say in a clear statement at somepoint in the near future, as I don't believe she's necessarily racist.

And YES, GGDaily has a lot of blatant racism. Misogyny as well but if talked around here people will turn into a mess with the "bUt ReVeRsE rAcIsM" and "BuT iF iT WeRe A gUy" :awkney: Don't let me start with the transphobic folks too...

Dear lord, why are you all so f*cking serious. Same as with Gaga's statement. You are telling her to chill, but maybe you should all chill?

She didn't say anything, that many people haven't thought already. So what if she is throwing some things out there, and questioning it?

the same singer who said "try to seduce your dad type" so she really be out here seducing dads

but i agree with her shut up about guns and b*tches nobody cares

well this is exactly her point, it's about creating an emotion a story, and the lyric is from bad guy, so a female bad guy who gives no ****s and seduces people's dads just for fun and chaos. a bad guy :gaysia:

she didn't lie, she created a story or emotion

Doesn't GGD bash any artist getting as big or bigger than gaga whatever the race tho?

Back in the days Lana was called overrated by monsters and since she stopped making hits they loved her more. Same with minaj, the monster backlash was worst when she was bigger imo. Madonna and Beyoncé always seems on top so they always got crap here. Grande start taking crap when she arrived on top around thank U next. Gomez also get her fair share of bashing and it intensified when she went bigger a few years ago. Now billie's getting sh*t as well since she exploded some time ago.

Except for Rihanna. She and Adele are the only one I always saw getting globally loved on GGD.

Maybe we could add Lorde but for her too it clearly went better on GGD when she went more indie and wasn't seen as a big "chart competition" for gaga anymore. If she had many hits à la "royals" I'm sure many folks here would insist on how overrated she is etc. :ladyhaha:

Pretty much this. Whenever someone becomes a „threat“ or when someone is largely unknown but has some sort of success (also knowing there are a lot of non-american users on here) they get trashed.
as you said Ariana for example was always rooted for, everyone loved into you and then suddenly everyone turned on her when she became really really successful and got a lot of attention and critical acclaim.

I won‘t deny though that I sometimes see statements on here that make me go :saladga: in terms of racism

Yeah I would say some here stay the same with Ari but many people turned on her suddenly when she went huge lol.

It's quite absurd when gaga herself laughed at her being a threat to Madonna's throne and added she didn't care about someone's throne since she had her own etc. She's FAR to be into these popstars rivalries the way some of her monsters are sadly. The good news is the older we get the calmer we are as a fanbase lmao.

Yeah that's true you do see ugly stuffs here!

Now I sometimes found it exaggerated when some monsters denounce it while making it seems like if it was fascistDaily with a tons of these being posted everyday. Yes it's there for sure but people saying the site is basically full of that mainly seem like posers wanting to denounce something to feel good about themselves.

I don't need to like hip hop to know what she said is ignorant and condescending

she can't lie in her music but rappers can't?

If Gaga had said it, everyone on twitter would be dragging her to hell, calling her old, white and privileged.

But not members on GGD who don't even like hip hop in the first place

I said everyone here, not everyone out there.

True. Conscious hip hop is hard. Bitches and hoes hip hop is trash.

Glad someone with a bit of clout said it.

Who said you can't be dark and a Justin Bieber fan?

It's pretty stupid and dangerous to reduce people to one artist they may enjoy. I think y'all are wasting way too much energy hating on a girl who's barely an adult.

More on topic: she's right, and it's far from news.

They way she either has to love all of hip hop or not. Y’all are simple.

I don’t stan her but yet sis snapped. Idk what’s worse about hip hop/rap... the messy lyrics or the lack of singing

Billie threads pop off more than every other thread on this site. Will the obsession with trying to drag her ever end lol.

It's not like we didn't know this but she didn't lie. :huntyga:

I think we're not wasting any energy and that not all non-positive comments are hate.
