When did they ever do the same thing though? They never tried to be "regular sexy". Luckily they have bigger dreams than that.

they tried and did that plenty of times during their career ???? a different package with the same purpose

bell hooks accurately clocked madonna's antics during the erotica era as a patriarchal tool and a new way to make more money disguised as female empowerment lol you're accusing them of doing the very same thing that madonna did

What's wrong with being "regular sexy"? What even is that? Do you even know much about both Shakira and J.Lo, and their brands? To be honest, It appears as if you are someone who doesn't know much about either, and is supporting their opinion purely based on the halftime show, which makes your points challenging them as artists (such as this one) completely irrelevant.

I'm only talking about this specific show though. I never claimed to be talking about anything else (even though I do know Shakira and JLO, lol, I grew up with them). I'm not intending to talk about them as people or artists in general at all :rip: I like them, just not this performance for the reasons stated.

And again: there's nothing wrong with being "regular sexy". But if it's the center of your whole performance act then why should we applaud that. It's dull.

You're gonna bring up bell hooks here? :rip: Read the room.

I love hooks and I think she has some very meaningful things to say but I think that within the confines of pop music, Madonna did push boundaries. So I disagree with her there.

I'm confused as to your own opinion now though. Are you seriously saying that these pop stars, including Gaga, are just promoting patriarchy to make money? 'cause kudos if you are, that's a level of criticism that I've never seen on this forum. But if this is your way of defending JLO and Shakira, I think you chose a rather self-contradicting angle :laughga:

you're the one who started this pointless debate, I don't think I'm the one who should read the room lol

in a certain way they all are promoting patriarchy, including gaga, they're pop stars in the music business an industry controlled and micromanaged by males, they sell the product and we all buy it, it's not supposed to be taken as a statement on why we should stop consuming pop music and how it's ruining our lifes lmfao. all I'm saying is that i find a tad bit hypocritical to criticise jlo and shakira of doing and being part of something that gaga, madonna and other white pop stars also actively do and take part in, it's not that deep

"Chantaje" alone has 2.5 BILLION views on YouTube.

Waka Waka has 2.4b

I remember Bad Romance being ahead of it (like 2 years or more since the World Cup), then Waka Waka surpassed it and now it has 1.3b more :nooo:

Well done. I actually liked it more than i expected. There were some great moments of euphory and deliver. It looked like 5 or 6 halftimeshows tho:ladyhaha:

Seemed like a good celebration of the latino inside eua. Ofc very cliche bomba latina fuego etc but yeah. Most of all they sold the joy and drive, imo

You know, the world is more than just English-speaking countries :triggered:

Shakira is a huge Latin American icon, has been for longer than Gaga’s career.

Exactly and these songs weren't that big in my country or the USA, even despite the amount of streams, which are some of the main markets. I've clearly ruled everyone up. In countries that aren't Latin American, Gaga's doing just as well, if not better lol... I had never heard of Chantaje until I went on one of her playlists, it was never played in local clubs. That's just my experience, I ain't shitting on here, y'all need to chill out

I'm Greek and my country is literally on the other side. They're Balkan hits too. Shakira is almost as big as Rihanna here and under Madonna. Beyonce, Taylor are non factors here for example. :enigma:

Anyways, to cleanse ourselves from the ignorance, misogynism, sl*t shaming, toxicity of this thread, let's all stream this bop, an example of latin and overall music excellence about female expression, power, sexuality and intuition brought to us by miss Shakira Isabel in 2005.

Imagine shaming women for being 'regular sexy' :awkney:

Sounds like the user simply can't stand to see outstandingly attractive women displaying their sexuality and fitness without shame.

Why should a women have to justify her sexuality? Why can't a women just be proud of her body and abilities?

Sexiness at the level of Shakira and J.Lo is a honed talent and a genetic gift. Believe it or not some women just have more sexual energy and intuition  and enjoy harnessing that.
