SOTY is all about songwriting and ARUTW is a well written song (arguably better written than Shallow and much of Gaga's discography). Plus, not to discount Gaga's writing abilities but Natalie Hemby is very well respected as a songwriter....so it's not surprising imo that the Grammys, particularly the songwriters, gave it a nod. It doesn't hurt that it was attached to one of the best selling albums of 2018 and 2019, too, imo. But yeah, in general the Grammys are shady asf but in this case I do think it deserved a nod along with most of the nominees. Most of the time they give it to songs that chart high....so it's kind of interesting a lot of the nods are for songs that were so so on the BB100 (Gaga) or didn't even chart on the BB100 (H.E.R., Lana, Tanya).
