A reminder that SARS was initially under reported  and the government was slow to act

True

But this one seems particularly contagious not to mention what the government does is limited anyway

Once it's out into the public it's up to ppl to take precautions...

Whether u wash ur hands and avoid unnecessary contact is still on u

This virus is NOT SARS, not even SARS adjacent beyond it also being a respiratory illness. Mortality rate of SARS was 10%, whereas the mortality rate of Wuhan Virus is under 3% - lets not make this into more than it is. There's no need to be afraid if you are a healthy adult. Like most flu, those at greatest risk are children and seniors. MOST people recover quickly and safely from this virus.

I think you're misreading me. I'm implying the government is repeating the past by under reporting yet again. I don't trust the CCP and I will never trust the actions of Xi Jinping. So blaming it on the people when the people barely know that it's happening is the most obtuse answer. "Up to the ppl to take precautions..." The people were warned effectively.

Initial news of this virus and it's diagnosis in several people started 12/31/19. https://www.dw.com/en/china-investigates-sars-like-virus-as-dozens-struck-by-pneumonia/a-51843861

I don't believe officials were taking this seriously as they should and now that the world is watching, they're worried now with increasing that many countries that trade with them could suddenly cut off business.

There is not enough study on this new disease yet. All kinds of information are mixed up. Experts are not even 100% sure yet where it was from. it is only suspicion for now that it was from snakes. Not to mention China is unwilling to be open about it. Those 3% percentage are nothing at this point but rough estimate. It is not SARS but it can always be worse than SARS. Active precaution is needed.

Oh ok I did misread u but I think u also misunderstood me as well

I wasn't blaming ppl for the spread that it's their fault

I was saying that aspect of spread wouldn't have changed now vs 2004 with sares... What the Government can do is limited. It's still mostly up to the ppl. I wasn't suggesting they did a bad job that wasn't the point

I thought u were saying the government was slow last time but faster this time

An outbreak with a mortality rate and an infectivity rate both lesser than SARS cannot possibly be worse than SARS. Regrettably I don't think you know what you're talking about and you will end up frightening people with your misguided rhetoric.

Was there a reason to post this other than to spread fear. I’m tired of hearing about this.
Also, this is just hearsay so don’t report it like News, please. It does no good.

In China, hearsay is often more trustworthy than official news - sad truth.

SARS was November 2002 to July 2003

Those are the numbers you have. Almost 20 years ago.

This is just happening now and it could increase so @RAMROD is right there should be precautions and active surveillance should be monitored as the outbreak just started and we have no clue how long this is gonna last.

How do you even know it was lesser mortality rate when even foreign press don't know for sure? What is your source?  :oprah:

Do you actually believe Chinese government reports? The very government that have media control over all things in their land and beyond?  You are so naiive if so.

No ****, but to say this virus is as serious as or comparable to SARS is a gross and dangerous exaggeration.

I work in government and my Mother's a physician and between the two of us we have ample information to safely say that we're gonna be alright.

We're comparing situations and the situations at the start of each outbreak are similar

This is an outbreak. The beginning. It should be appropriate to the situation to have precautions and active surveillance of the situation.

I've already linked a video of someone who lives there on the situation and a John Hopkins data map to get updates on the situation. WHO has reported the numbers are rising in both infected and deaths.

It's not wrong to say be on your guard when something bad happens. No one here is making light of SARS.

Have you even read the other posts in this thread? Lol there was more than one reference to SARS. Keep washin' those hands tho!
