I think in the case of TD, it was like the Grammys realised that over time, they'd grown to like it more and thought critics had been too harsh on it.

Nah. It was just a super successful album and they wanted ratings :emma: Simple as that. It's a good pop album (and, like Katy's other albums, I definitely agree with you that critics are just ridiculously harsh on it in comparison to how they fondle other pop stars) but definitely not enough to be nominated in that category.

It makes sense, of course, that these top categories are influenced by what will attract viewers, so I'm not super bummed about that but it does mean that exactly these awards (the only ones people care about) have no real meaning, and that's my number one problem with the show. Because pop fans do take these categories seriously, leading to a lot of unnecessary delusion and hysteria :smh:

Scheiße*
scheibe means glass plate in German :air:

It actually means disc, slice or pane :stalkga: in any case, nothing close to sh*t/bullsh*t

I know, I just don’t have german keyboard :p

On most keyboards, you just need to press and hold 's' to get the ß letter. If you're too lazy for that, it's just as correct to spell it Scheisse because ß is an s sound, not a b :huntyga:

Glad to see there's validity in claims that have made for years that connections give certain artists some sway and even those at the bottom of the pile can manage to scrape nominations. And why those who have a very niche audience win awards over those with much wider appeal. I also think there's an agenda to push certain people some years because there's got to be a reason why they're all over an artist one year but their next album, which has just as much praise, suddenly gets completely ignored.

Are they definitely talking about this year's nominees? I think they must as Ed and Ariana I don't think released anything worthy of something that big for the previous year's ceremony.

As for Miley, that's odd that her image was too much for them as the Grammys have nominated overtly sexual work before. I mean, hello, there's rap categories. And Bangerz got a nomination. I always knew that her image would be off-putting to them but that also makes them big hypocrites concerning what else they've nominated.

I think in the case of TD, it was like the Grammys realised that over time, they'd grown to like it more and thought critics had been too harsh on it. I think critics were too harsh on it, it's certainly Katy's best album, in my mind and I'm not even a fan. At the same time, we have to realise that she's only ever been nominated for her work that went #1 (apart from Hot n Cold), so it was the academy thought her success made her worthy of nominations if nothing else and as soon as she couldn't rise to the top, no more nominations. There are worse nominees, though. Beerbongs & Bentleys got nominated for AOTY and that got an even lower MC score than TD, one of the most polarising albums of all time. That was the ultimate proof to me that the nominations are, in part, to do with success, even if it's not every nominee.

We've done that to a lot of other artists too. I've also said it for Adele, Taylor, Norah Jones...and many more. We just think some people are not deserving, there's no need to take it all so personally.

When did I take it personal? And why do you feel the need to quote me defending Something I believe in while ignoring those bashing an artist they don’t even know and justify it by simply saying “overrated”

no offense but I’ll continue to say and call out people I feel because I can just like everyone can bash whoever they want on here. Lol I’m not mad just confused as to why you choice to reply to me 😂 ignoring the Beyonce hate this site gets and no the hate for others is no where near the hate for Bey. Grammys can be rigged and se aren’t rigged but I can call out people choosing Bey while blatantly ignoring other artist who actually sweep the big 4 every time the release a project. Lol

Why are you mentioning race? :laughga: Woman who wrote her album and who took the world by storm with her talent deserves more than 5 Grammy’s. Stay bitter and honey don’t be racist! ❤️

You've been suggesting that we've been harsh on Beyonce because we have an unfair bias against black people. If people think Beyonce's overrated, that's all there is to it, there's no need to insert racism. It's not that anyone even saying she's untalented, just overrated. Just for once, I'd like to see a critique of a black artist just taken for what it is and not pull the race card, unless there's a really blatant case of it. Most of us are all about the music. I don't know how hard that is to get into people's heads. I'm not defending Beyonce because I'm not a fan of her and because, with the huge fanbase she is, she doesn't exactly need defending. And bashing an artist they don't even know? You don't know her either. That excuse is only used when talking about criticism, no one accuses anyone who's responded positively of "you don't even know them, how do you know they're nice?"

Actually, yes, we can say what we want about celebrities on here. It's a general discussion board. Celebrities put themselves out there to be judged and they're not a protected species. Trust me, you're one of many who points out Beyonce hate, she's by far the artist with the most pushback to any criticism of her here. It's partly this "respect the queen or die" approach in the Beyonce fandom that has put so many people off her. Again, how do you know she doesn't buy awards? Considering that she's the second most awarded woman in Grammy history who has won for songs that aren't even that big, the chances of her buying them is huge. There has been instances of buying awards across the board, it's not out of the equation. Considering her dad was on the board at one point doesn't look good (I don't care if she didn't always win, he likely caused her to get nominations for obscure songs that wouldn't normally get noticed). Jay also got 8 nominations (the most awarded artist that night) for an album that everyone forgot about and had no buzz or impact after about a month. You don't think it's remotely strange that Beyonce's blatantly urban contemporary album (which was made by black artists and billed as being a love letter to Africa) is nominated in the pop vocal album category? That album isn't pop, not even in the broadest definition of the word. Instances like this rightfully make us call her out. And she may not sweep every time but she always wins some award for every album she puts out, no matter how hard it flops, which is very hard to do. And I have called out those who always seem to win too much. You're acting as if everyone on this board thinks the same way. It's your generalising that made me quote you.

The delusion... cringe.
i mentioned race because I can and if you must know more, it fits the narrative of why so many people gloss over Adele sweeping but cry at Bey winning non main categories. Turn a blind eye if you must to stay feeling good about yourself but please don’t quote me with delusions. Bitter? Child... you replied to me which wasn’t needed so... I guess I’ll stay seasoned.  “Took the world by storm with her talent” hahaha meanwhile Bey kills any and every award show performance and album vocals she releases ha. Let me stop this is a bubble gum pop forum. R&b vocals clearly aren’t well known here 😂

Beyonce has many Grammy’s. What’s your point? Except for being racist ofc.. You wanting to come of as smarter than anyone here when your only argument is race and Beyonce when there are MANY women of color that are actually 10000x more talented than that girl that don’t get any recognition. Adele deserves this because she sings and writes her won song. When was the last time Beyonce wrote her song all by herself? Never? Oh... Also don’t call me a “child” because you have no clue about me or who I actually am. You’re not better than other people on here. Have a good day or stay bitter I guess.

See and that’s where you do too much. Me and many others defend Beyonce and other artist under fire. I rarely if ever use racism as a way to make people like Beyoncé. I did this one instance and you act as if it’s a regular. Sorry but no, you also fail to realize what I just said. The same people take any chance to bash Bey and you bet I will ALWAYS defend her. Stop being negative and you won’t have to claim all these excuses as to why you are. To be specific it was runaway I was referring to. Go back and look and you’ll see the Bey shade and countless other threads expose this as well. I can and will always say what’s on my mind and if you are feeling some type of way than that’s on you. Difference of opinion but doesn’t mean I don’t respect your opinion. But cmon the Bey hate is real and if you have time look at my replies on anything Bey related and you’ll see I don’t have to use race even though that may be a plausible case. Others can defend themselves and saying overrated doesn’t give anyone the right to BASH someone. It’s so frowned upon in everyday life to bash someone yet it’s giggles and smiles and “opinion” when it’s a celeb. Nope

Lol please stop the victim act it’s not comical. My argument isn’t about race and that’s funny and on you that your mind seems to lean and only see that argument. You and many others bash and ridicule this women and it’s literally tiring and disgusting. It’s not funny and it’s not okay to bash and protect it by saying “it’s my opinion” some of your post are funny but I will never stop defending her as long as people like you continually discredit and ridicule her. I said and will always say it’s strange that people attack and bash bey for having Grammys yet Adele and others sweep and never get questioned. Bey can sell 800,000 albums and get bashed for payola, Adele can sell 3 million in a week and it’s “deserved.” Who are you to claim who’s deserves and who doesn’t? Who are you to discredit Someone’s talent because they don’t write? Are you aware Gaga doesn’t write every word of flow of her song and she’s really open about that and loves teamwork. Stop... I’m over it lol once again it’s ok to not like bey but expect to be quoted when you try to be comical while bashing her. I’m not bitter but a regular human who doesn’t like seeing people bashed but if that’s what it takes to be apart of Stan culture and a little monster you go right ahead. Adele and Bey are great but it’s shameful and clear bias to question bets every accomplishment yet praise Adele for the same things. If you feel attacked then that’s on you. Anyway going to get some food. feel free to reply again but it’ll be awhile if I even respond

You are the one who mentioned Beyonce first tho :ladyhaha: Honestly if Grammy's were awards for dancing then I'd be here for Beyonce winning but when it comes to lyrics, singing and the actual musical talent then I'm sorry but Adele is more deserving (and you are also the first one to mention Adele in this discussion). Her being white has nothing to do with her talent (also you mentioned her being white as if that has something to do with this). You are too concerned about race honey. Yes, Gaga doesn't write every single word but she writes at least 80% of every single one of her songs.. What's your point exactly? :ladyhaha: Stop trying. Once Beyonce comes out with album that's written all by herself and that actually shows her talent then you can talk about her and compare her to Adele. As long as she keeps releasing concept albums like Lemonade where she doesn't even sing for 80% of that album it's just not it. Only groundbreaking thing about Lemonade were visuals that were done by someone else - she only had to be there in someone else's art and vision. And I don't even care if you reply to me or not.. I know you'll read this honey and that's enough for me.

There's nothing wrong with defending her but it just comes across as being a bit like a stuck record now. We already know all the Beyonce defences, so nothing's going to make us change our minds. It's when I stopped obsessively defending my faves that the hate for them died down. Of course there's a Beyonce backlash, there's a backlash on anyone who achieves huge success. Beyonce's the second most awarded woman in Grammy history and seems to win even the most obscure awards, in addition to being a huge critical darling with demand for her albums and tours and frequent claims that she's an iconic, legendary goddess. Someone in that position will always be called overrated by many. This is the natural reaction to such adulation. After a while, we start to ask ourselves, is this person really worth all this hype and praise? And for some, the conclusion is no. It's the big downside to ultimate success. If someone doesn't want this double edged sword, fame is not for them.
