Of course it's scripted, did you think he just went there and said those things off the top of his head? :derpga:

Im not talkin about his speech per se, im talking about the idea of a "celeb gone rogue against the clan".

The only thing his speech achieved is making the golden globes go viral.

The thing is this is his brand of comedy, it’s expected of him to make this type of jokes and he’s already done it before.

He needs to host the Grammy Awards and scalp all nominees

whew can you imagine a Grammy host calling out specific artists for random bundles/add-ons to go #1 :gaycat: or supporting abusers. Stan twitter would go wild

Nice of him to find time from making transphobic jokes to write this :ohwell:

Yeah I’m being grilled on reddit for calling this out

Apparently, me being trans and being hurt by his “jokes” means I’m a bigot.

If you think Trans Women are just “men in disguise” THAT’S NOT A JOKE

He's brilliant at hosting. You can see the FEAR on everyone's faces in the room because they know the next roast might be in their expense :deadbanana:

I hope he hosts more award shows. No one has the balls to do what he does.

I know, thats why they invited him for.

But this isnt him calling out other celebs, this is hollywood telling the world "we dont care, we dont even try to hide it, we can even call ourselves out for it,  but guess what? You will keep watching our movies and giving us money"

I hadn't thought of it like that before but from what I know about Ricky Gervais, his integrity means alot to him and I don't think anybody could have made him say these things.

I believe 100% that he thought "**** it, I'm going to say what I want to say". If you look at his work particularly Extras, he does something similar there when his character stars in Big Brother. He goes on a rant about how false it is.

He's always been the type to call out bullshit when he sees it.

I said that about him allegedly visiting Epstein's island. I didn't want it to be true. But it was discovered that it was just a conspiracy rumour.

oh right I didn't make the connection, they don't show Tom Hanks during the Epstein joke but I have heard conspiracy rumors about him before

Edit: oh I realise why I was confused, the user you quoted edited out that part about Hanks visiting the island so I was lost

People are calling him “brave”

But how brave are you when Netflix pays you to fuel the Netflix vs Hollywood feud at award shows?

Like “wow you’re so brave for being a wealthy white man dissing other wealthy white men”

When we all know they’ll just gonna go back to their millions the next day. People are like “LOOK AT THE FEAR IN THESE CELEBS EYES”

They don’t care. They have super strong spines from years of rejection auditions and money. Tons of money.

Look up his edgy Atheist magazine cover. Super cringe.

“Standing up for what you believe in” doesn’t mean your beliefs is free from criticism. People “stand up for their beliefs” that Trump is the greatest man in the world right now.

It’s an ironic joke because his “calling out” is hollow at best.

Funny how GGD and people all over will scream I HATE CANCEL CULTURE but Ricky’s whole act is cancel culture.

Instead we should be praising Michelle Williams speech on Abortion rights and encouraging women to vote for themselves because men already do that at the expense of women’s rights.

Everyone in that room would say the same about their own integrity.

One of the main reasons that i think the whole thing is scripted, is that all his "accusations" are just thrown in the air, putting everyone on the same bottle. (Which brings a bad light on the celebs that dont deserve it, while hiding those who do in the crowd).

If he really wanted to do something and change things, if he really is that brave, then I wouldve expected stuff like: "hey ________ why dont you come up and explain why you went to Epstein island" "hey_________, come to explain why you support this company that does bad stuff in china" "hey _________ what makes YOU think that your political opinion is important".

Give me names, put them on the spot, tell us what you know, dont just throw insults to seem edgy.

And his comment about Greta really disgusts me and it goes 100% against what he said 20 seconds before, if he cant see the situation from the point of view of young people, a young girl that wants to fight for her own future, then how does he dare to say the others there "dont know anything about the real world"?

All talk, no results, and his speech wont achieve absolutely nothing. The speech was perfectly designed to be edgy, and to go viral, without achieving anything good, no celeb is going to lose a single dime because of it. It just circled around the issues.
