Not to sound hypocritical as a chart thread resident, but the day my opinion about a song is directly connected to its commercial performance is the day I deserve to bite the bullet. The numbers are fascinating and fun to track but no amount of success can make me like a bad song, and no amount of floppage can prevent me from loving a song. I mean of course it's great when a song you enjoyed by an artist you like gets commercial success, especially because a lot of the time it means a great number of people appreciate it just as much as you but to act like music should only be made with the goal of being successful or changing your opinion when a song flops or succeeds is such a sad way of consuming art.
